patching failed

everytime i try to patch to 1.02 it says patching failed....i would really like to play on the ranked servers, but i dont think i can until i patch to 1.02...so hummm, i also updated punkbuster and even reinstalled the whole game...i can play just fine, just not on the ranked servers....it says i must revert my copy of BF2 to the current version to play ranked servers.....i really dont know what the problem is, but i would really like to play ranked server, anyone know whats happening....or anyone else experienced the same problem as me?

heres some tips to pass the time lol

-run spyware checks

-install bf2- run once- then add patch.

-download the patch from a different source

Searching for patch or failed in topic title would probably find you many post where similar issue is addressed.

First thing I would do is to check the patchlog.txt, look in ...\My Documents\Battlefield 2\dmp\ it will often explain why it couldn't patch e.g. inssuficient disk space, BF2 patches require a lot more free space than ppl think, it will also tell you if patch skipped any files and why.
