PSU and fps...??

Will a cheap PSU mess up my fps? because no matter what setting I have my fps will still go down in the high 20's sometimes... I think it's my PSU because sometimes at startup it would say something like " A power cord is not connected to 9800PRO" something like that... but it is. Another thing when i disconnect a fan or 2 my video card will do better but then it gets to hot ect... So now I'm thinking of buying a new PSU, should I( right now I have a 350w? Or is it just my card? It used to do good before....

ur video card requires some PSU. mine requires 250watts. ummm.... if it is connected to ur PSU, it should hold u back some. get around 350. as u said. if i were u, get at least like a 400 or 450w. if ur going to plan on upgrading. wht r u specs and y do u have 20fps for a good line card. i have a 5700 and get 70-90fps. also wht settings to u put it on. and did i say can u please list ur specs.

I think youre PSU must be at least 400 w. I have a geforce 6600 (not the GT) and it needs at least 400 w.
At first i had a 250w PSU and BF2 crashed everytime. Now i have a 450w and it runs very good.

sounds like you need more juice, perhaps bf2 is making it need more...need a new PSU
But it sounds like its working so there might just be enough in it to make it work, theres a few things you could try for the moment,

1- try to use a molex connector on a power line that isnt being used by a another device (such as a harddisk)

2- is there any way you can use less power, could you dissconnect a cd-drive perhaps? do you have/need 2 optical drives?

3- any flashy lights or cold cathodes in there? disconnect those if ya have them

4- if you have a good few fans in there try turning the speeds down, this also helps preserve power

I have a 9800pro, 2 gigs, a dvd drive a dvd burner, 160GB hard drive, Audigy 2 zs, 3 80mm case fans with blue led lights, 80mm CPU fan with blue led lights and a Saitek joystick connected to a USB port....a 350w PSU is what runs it all.

The fan on the 9800pro sometime moves slow... I would have to move it a little so it could turn faster...

I used to run everything one high except for shadows light and texture on medium with AAx2....( fps never below 36)

but now I cant even run the thing on low/ medium with out my fps going into the low 30' or mid20's and just today BF2 did not even start! I had to disconnect a fan.

Sometime at startup I will get another thing saying that no VGA device is detected....

I am just going to buy a new 500w PSU but could my problem be another thing too?
