Hiya,
I have a few criteria by which to judge a map.
1. Is it a mix of infantry and vehicle oriented terrain?
If there are a lot of open spaces, then vehicles/aircraft can make the game very frustrating for the infantry. This is especially true when there is a long way between flags, little cover from overhead attack and a few players monopolise the available vehicles.
I have no objection to certain areas being no-go to vehicles because of width or height, but if a vehicle is very limited in the areas to which it can move - boats on limited/divided rivers for example - then this can also be annoying.
2. Is there a real and balanced role toplay for each kit?
I like to see a balance here - some good sniper spots, some vehicle choke points for engineers/anti-tank, and so on, but without one kit being the 'obvious' one to take for a given map.
3. Is there a dominating tactic?
I think a map is much more enjoyable if there isn't one tactic that is very difficult to beat. An example of this would be the BH on Mashtuur - I have often joined the game only to find out that the US chopper has already captured several points. I prefer a game with ebb and flow - where teamwork will be rewarded, but the sides must continually adapt to the challenges of the current tactical situation.
Bearing in mind these criteria, my favourite map overall is Sharqi Peninsula. I see it as the best balance between vehicles/aircraft/infantry and the best mix of terrain/variation of flag locations.
