Although i have been playing the Battlefield game for years i still, for the life of me, control a chopper.

All the nig points are earnt through the chopper but i just cannot do it... i can get it up but never control it like ive seen players do.

throughout the years of Battlefield and not being able to fly a chopper i have becoe an expert in lone wolf killing...

every time i try and fly - i bl00dy crash!

can anyone help on this front?

Not really, all I can say is go into SP and try to practice. Just let the throttle come up and try to hover a while. Then try spinning with teh A,D keys. Then a little straffing with the mouse. It's a feel you must acquire through practice.

i found that you have to slightly counter the movement you are trying to make and its not about holding down the keys, more tapping/momentary holding.
For example, you've taken off and hit the up arrow to lean forward while holding W for forward momentum. you'll notice the chopper just keeps on leaning, this is where the counter tap on the down arrow will come in handy to level you out. this is the same for leaning left and right.

Also, when turning (A left, D right) your chopper will always start leaning in the opposite direction. So if your turning left while hovering it would be a wise idea to tap the left arrown key occasionally as you will lean right.

Thats if you just use the keyboard like i used to before i got my joystick.

as 1st reply suggested... Operation Clean Sweep in Single player, get in the BH and work on it...

Basics are, (using WSAD for directional keys): W to power up, once up in the air, forward (assuming mouse isnt inverted) on mouse to tilt helo forward, that'll get u going forward. To turn - ex: Left, its a combo of mouse and kb movements. Left on the mouse to bank left, pressing S to turn tail to that direction, etc... But its more of a feel than just saying 'press this to go this way'. Really need to try it in SP.

I almost never flew in DC 'cept for the littlebirds once in a while. I've dedicated a fair amount of time to it in bf2 and have become a pretty decent helo pilot...its just practicing..

Very Simple solution...GET A JOYSTICK mate.
No offence and completely agree with you...I CANNOT FLY S**T with keyboard...but plug in the JS and I was flying like a Pro FIRST TIME!
I'm now a brilliant Helo & Jet Pilot.

what about when you play as a soldier... is using a joystick as easy?

You use keyboard and mouse for that...it's easy...just customise the keys mate as you see fit.

I use Js for flying only...all the rest is Keyboard and Mouse.

urgh, playing on foot with a joystick would be terrible. But don't worry, you can bind chopper to joystick and still keep keyboard for on foot-jet, chopper, and on foot are all seperate in the 'controls' options.

I prefer mouse + keyboard for a chopper, but joystick for the jet. Just have to find something you like! :)

i dont have joystick - so iwll have to stick to using keyboard...

for the leaning i'd say so, unless u've mastered countering a steep bank, it all gets a bit crazy when your vertical sideways on, and swooping at extreme speeds.

And like everyone else said, try it in single player or create a local server.

i find that settign the sensitivity (for mouse anyway) really helps in piloting. i think mine it set to 1.5 and it makes a huge difference.

Local server would be best, bigger maps to get used to it and no bots, I use keyboard, A,D,S,W keys and my mouse. Tilt the heli forward just a little by using the mouse to move forward and the same for back. You can also move sidewards this way but it need to keep altitude and everything. You don't need to hold down the W keep to get altitude for a while when your moving forward sometimes, it just keeps level. The W key makes you go up towards the sky and the S key makes you go towards the floor.

Also, when your on a server get the feel for shooting things with the missles, you need to get the gap between little horizonal lines to fire. Its not brain science you'll figure it out.
