3d modeling

how did you guys learn to do 3d modeling? did you go to school for it? take some sort of class/workshop specifically for it? self taught?

If you're talking about Maya then there are some video tutorials around. Same with Zbrush, truespace, rhyno and some daz3d products. These are only just now becoming popular though, and i have to say - extremely boring I have a Maya one and i think its 15 hour long DVD or something like that:)

Self taught is probably the best method, and maybe sections of video tutorials for the basics and really hard stuff.

Either way it's a process and will take you years to learn it all, so don't expect any quick magical answers.

can anyone suggest a particular program to use or how i go about teaching myself how do this? i downloaded a fre trial of maya and truespace but there are sooo many things that i don't even know what they are or do...

it seems really complicated.
