plz help comp reboots

i installed bf2
but everytime i try to start the game my comp reboots
just as the EA games logo is about to come up
had the game since release and not been able to play it
ive not patched up
any ideas would be greatful

my comp:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ = lame i know
3x 256 ram = 768 pc3200 (ddr 400mhz)
ATi Radeon 9800 pro 128mb cat 5.6 drivers
Asrock k7s8x mobo = very old

spec isnt brill i know but ive never had any problems running any other games

What are your refresh rates of your monitor set to? Have you installed DirectX9c? Service pack 2?

my screen is is set to 1024 x 768 @ 75hz @ highest 32bit: i have directx9c and service pack 2

smartgart : off
agp : 8x
fast write off
vpurecovery : off
dpi settings : normal 96dpi
smart shaders : no effect
opengl : smoothvision 2.1
anti-anialising : (ticked) application preference 2x
anisotrpoic filtering : (ticked) application preference 2x
texture preference : high quality
mipmap detail level : high quality
wait for virtical sync: allways off
truform : allways off
same as for direct3d
tried different drivers except 5.7
had the game for a while now and not even been able to watch the intro video nevermind play the damn game
