I think it's susposed to be a Type 56 from the Vietnam era. Yes - its a German design via AK after WW2.Comment

It's based more on a grease gun than an MP40. Either way, as is the general concensus, it blows chunks.Comment

Sad as it is, for dedicated anti-tankers, you don't get anything better. Unlockables don't count since they are unusable at most of the servers (war-servers to name a few).Originally posted by SovetskeeyIt's based more on a grease gun than an MP40. Nevermind - It's a MAT49 modified 7.62mm SMG -
Produced by the Manufacture d’Armes de Tulle (MAT) in 1946 and using the 9mm Parabellum cartridge this SMG was adopted by the French Army in 1949 (hence the designation MAT49). The weapon was widely used by French forces in Indo-China and many found their way into the hands of the Vietminh and eventually the Viet Cong.
The Vietnamese modified the weapon to fire the Soviet 7.62mm x 25P ammunition and it’s PRC equivalent by fitting a longer 7.62mm barrel. However, they did keep all the essential features of the MAT49 except for replacing the 32-round box with a 35-round magazine.
One of the remarkable features of the weapon was the sliding wire butt stock which could be pushed forward out of the way for carrying and pulled to the rear if it was to be used in firing. The magazine housing on the receiver could be rotated forward through 90-degrees (even with the magazine fitted) to lie along the barrel. These features made the MAT49 particularly suitable for troops who required compactness in carriage.
At the back part of the pistol grip was a grip safety, which was operated by the action of squeezing the pistol grip when firing a round. This released the safety catch. When the grip safety was not squeezed, it locked the bolt in the forward position, and locked the trigger when the weapon was cocked. The lock was released by the pressure of the palm of the hand. The weapon could not be accidentally discharged.
The Vietnamese modification increased the cyclic rate of fire from 600-rounds per minute to 900-rpm.Comment

Yeah, not a very good weapon, but I would have expected it to do better close quarters. I wasn't expecting rifle accuracy, but it should at least be more accurate than usual when fired from the hip.Comment

Wrongo guys, it is the Chinese Type 79/85 SMG
The Type 79 is the first generation indigenous submachine gun equipped by the Chinese military, security, and police services. The submachine gun was type classified in 1979 and entered mass production in 1983.
The Type 79 is widely equipped by the PLA's airborne, scout and special operation units, as well as the People's Armed Police (PAP) and the Police Services.
The Type 79 fires pistol bullets in either the automatic or semiautomatic mode. The gun is recoil operated, with a foldable butt stock. The basic configuration of this submachine gun makes for an ideal size, weight, and capable (in terms of accuracy, lethality, reliability, etc.) close quarters battle (CQB) weapon.
The Type 85 is an improved variant derived from the Type 79. The barrel and bolt carrier group is specially designed to reduce the sound of firing. The weapon is ideal for close quarters battle (CQB). There are also suppressed variant and 5.8 mm version of this machine gun.

The MAT-49:

is a wholly different weapon, completely different in design and function.
The MAT-49 has a folding mag well and is a simple open-bolt blowbacck smgComment

All the AT guns are pretty sucky, but before the game came out a lot of people where worried they (Anti-tank) would be overpowered with both a rocket and gun of some sort. As it is the gun just gives you the slightest bit of self defense so it works out I suppose.
But thats pretty interesting information there.Comment
