My internet connection keeps cutting out and my provider has told me that i have an unstable connection due to the area i live in. Does anyone know anything i can do to make my connection more stable? Its really getting in the way of me playing BF2

I have the same problems. I would sit there playing a GREAT game then BAM problem with internet connection then puts me back to the main screen. How and why is this happening???? I do live in Hawaii so I dunno if that is a problem I usually play on servers no higher than 140 ping so..... i dunno..... -
Boy if I had an ISP like that, they would be fired in a heartbeat and I would be shopping for another ISP. Can you give some specifics like what provider, what type of connection (dialup, dsl, cable), what hardware you are using (cable modem, dsl modem, whatever). Pretty hard to help when all we have to go on is "My connection sucks and my ISP won't help".Comment

problem is that if i can't get it on one provider i can't get it on any other cos it uses the same phone line :SComment

Your only option would be to get the ISP to come out and "fix" things. If you are too far from the station that provides for you tho its possible that not much can help. If you are a short distance from it though, there is no reason for them not to come out and figure out why you keep getting dumped.
Maybe the ISP's do things different in the UK though.Comment

Thats it, i'm apparently quite far from the exchange and they say they won't upgrade the line cause there isn't enough demand. Sucks living in the middle of nowhere. Guess i'll just have to put up with it

I'm having ISP issues... having to reset my cable modem every 10-20 minutes (if I'm lucky).
Shop for ISPs? I live in Kentucky... there AREN'T any other ISPs.Comment

Go to www.dslreports.com and run a line test. This will tell you in more detail where the problem may be occuring. Just because the ISP tells you it's your line doesn't mean jack. I've been in Telecom for about 12 yrs now and the providers almost always try and brush off troubles. I know I have a bad router on the East coast that I have to hop through everytime I connect to anything west of the Mississippi. The line test I suggested may give you a little more ammunition to use against your ISP.Comment

i switched from dsl to avci wireless here in michigan. from the beginning the internet connection is not stable and the ping jumps all over from 80-1900. i went to that dslreport.com to try that line test as suggested to someone else but dont see how to do it there. i cant even play bf2 anymore due to bad pings. its not my computer either as they came out and agreed but they dont really seem to have a understanding of how it all works.Comment

DSL quality decreases rapidly from the server station. only way u can solve that is to get cable connection, or move closer to the server centre!Comment

One suggestion is that when talking to an ISP, avoid bringing up that the trouble is found while gaming. Gamers and kids are often not at the top of any ISP's list of those to help. If you are not the primary account holder of the DSL line, try having that person call in regarding general speed issues with every single thing they are doing. A 15 year old (not you and no accusation intended) calling in saying "My game won't work" will not get any true ear time nor sympathy nor consideration.
