Draw distance?

For some reason it feels like once in a while my draw distance will come really far in on certain maps. I'll be stuck playing in really dense fog that I normally don't have to deal with. Does the game dynamically change the draw distance or anything? It seems really random.

Some maps are designed to have fog (or smoke, or dust or whatever).
