    McAfee = lag

    I used to have horrendous lag on ranked servers for 5-10 mins every time a new map was loaded (only for one round). I am talking 10-20 fps lag or sometimes worse. This usually resulted in me trying to find a place to wait it out or just getting killed over and over. It also happened on unranked servers but only for 2-3 mins.
    I got fed up with my McAfee antivirus/spamkiller services (for other reasons) and removed them from my computer.
    Now the lag doesn't happen at all! It simply isn't there and I can play the game like it is meant to be played.
    In the words of the lovable Stimpy...happy happy joy joy happy happy joy joy happy happy joy joy...
    I hope this helps someone out.

    Could it have been from a lack of memory? I have McAfee running as well as Xfire and my Firewall. I don't get any lag with my system, and it's no great system either.

        Its not that its mcafee is that its a crappy home user version of mcafee. Get Mcafee 8 enterprise alongside your routers firewall and maybe the windows one and you'll have all the security you need (common sense beats spyware etc every time no need for crappy third party apps).

        The same can be said of almost all home user 'security packages' take care of your own security and it won't be a resource hog.

          could be various things from Anti-virus software,P2P programs, but another could be Punkbuster if not updated. Try a manual update if all other stuff seems to be ok. Punkbuster will cause me to lag and not playable. must have same version of PB as server and all is ok. For me that is

              Hehe, your 'no great system' kicks my systems ass!
              I think you have a pretty good setup.
              I only have one gig of ram and a 2 gig processor so that is probably why McAfee was screwing up my fps even though I had it disabled.

                Bigwyrm,

                I had the same issues. There are a lot of threads on this subject... it is clear that McAfee seriously interfers with BF2 patch 1.01 & 1.02. I had to uninstall it until it gets resolved in a future patch.

                  Firstly I'm pretty sure that EA has said to disable McAfee while playing BF2. Some think that this is the same as handing their PC to the hackers but I have yet to see someone run an .exe on my machine while the firewall is up so I wouldn't worry about stopping the antivirus while playing.

                  Also I guess that some programs affect people in different ways. There are people that can't run xfire as it drops their fps by 20-30 so I guess there's never a 100% solution for everyone.
