OK, When running BF2 in fullscreen mode a crash simply crashes to desktop without any explanation.
To get around this simply open up your BF2 shortcut and change the target so instead of saying "fullscreen 1" it says "fullscreen 0". You may have to change the ingame res etc to make it fit in your desktop.
Now you should get a nice error when it crashes specifying a certain file or texture that could be at fault.
Generally a texture fault is just where the map has not properly saved. To get around this just open the map in the editor, draw on and then delete a texture (so it asks you to save textures). The editor should overwrite the dodgy files and maps should now load up ingame (have done with me).
Also pay attention to what the game is loading up at the time of crash. If the game crashes when it says it is loading textures, chances are that it is a texture at fault
A hard crash is more difficult to get around (where no message is actually given). This can happen when you have manually changed the game files (for example, I deleted groundTexture.dds or something by accident and it just crashed without warning. If this is the case, look in your recycle bin for any files you may have deleted. Also always save backups of any files you change until you have at least tested the updated files.
I know this info has been mentioned lots of times, but the same "I keep crashed on 30%" issues keep coming up.
