  • 9800 Pro vs x800 Pro - Need Help

My pc is 3GHz 1 gig ram 9800 pro.
Im thinking of getting the x800 pro for around 300 dollars. Also maybe looking into buying a refubished one for even cheaper.

I read up and 9800 pro has 8 pipelines and 128 mbs and x800 pro has 12 pipelines and 256 mbs.
My question is would the graphic performance on BF2 and other new games be significant and is it worth the money ?

Also you can suggest another good video card for around 200-350 dollars that would be coo. BTW whats the nvidia equivalent of x800 pro?

Yes. Get it by all means.

The Nvidia equivalent would be a 6800, which I would recommend over the x800 because of it's price drop, it is now under $200 (it could be more, if your PSU isn't already up to it), almost the same price as the 9800 nowadays.

If I could slide 300 bucks to newegg without the wife knowing my rig would have the x800.
I have no issues running BF2 with what I got but of course I would need a few more upgrades to go along with the 800

The X800XL is the mid generation improvement over the X800pro, it has 4 extra pipes for pretty much the same price but the technology is more current.

          X800 XL Vs. X800 Pro

          Core
          Process scale (nm): 110 / 130
          Transistor count (millions): ~160 / ~120
          Clock speed (MHz): 400 / 475
          Vertex pipelines: 6 / 6
          Vertex shader version (best): 2.0 / 2.0
          Basic pixel pipelines: 16 / 12
          Texture samplers / pipeline: 1 / 1
          Max pixels per clock (colour/depth): 16 / 12
          Pixel shader version (best): 2.0b / 2.0b
          Overall DirectX level: 9 / 9

          Memory
          Interface width (bits):256 / 256
          Interface typeDR3 / DDR3
          Clock speed (MHz): 500 / 450

          Theoretical Peak Performance
          Vertex throughput (Mverts/sec): 600 / 713
          Pixel fill rate (Mpixels/sec): 6400 / 5700

I bought my X800 XL for 259.99 at Comp USA a few weeks ago. Don't pay 300 for it. Look around for a better deal. Also maybe check Ebay.

and if you go form the X800XT to the X800XT PE core frequency increases from 500MHz to 520MHz, and a memory increase from 500MHz to 560MHz .... ive got one and i love it.
