Headset woes..

Si I bought a headset...some cheap logitech headphone/micro phone duo for 20 bucks from Wal-Mart...
I getthem home and find there is one wire that ends in 2 connectors...1 for mic..1 for headset..
Now my problem is i have in the fornt of my comp a Headset hook up and a USB...on the back I have mutiple USB's and a mic hook-up.

So I cant use them since I have a 1-2 ft distacne from the headset to the mic hook up. I tried to pop in the headset connector into the headset hook up just to see if i could get sound with them..nothing came through tho, not even music.

So Im thinking is it best to buy a USB headset? Is that pair broke since Im not getting sound through them or is it that I need to have both connections hook-uped? If i could pop just the mic part in could I recieve others voices through my regualr speakers and just use the headset as a mic?

Also I have the old set of PS2 headphones I bought to try SOCOM, there USB but it says PS2...is it worth digging through my attic to use them?

Other then that i have 30 bucks to spend on a new set, I would have had 50 but the crappy 20 dollar logitecs raped my funds.

Logitech works fine, just make sure you have the right connectors.

ok Its official now, I hooked up just a bsic pair of headphones to my front side head phone jack and got no sound..I went to my audio controls and every volume control was maxed and none muted..so am i missing soemthing, I could careless if it is broke..but on the other hand I guess htis limits me to USB Headphone/Mic adapters?

what kind of freaking backward ass sound card do you have? every sound card i have ever seen, even onboard has all the jacks close together.
either you're not looking at your card right or thats some wack ass sound card.

your front side jacks might not be plugged into the sound card or to the motherboard. that would be a good reason it doesn't work.

can't you return the broken set and then have your $50 to spend?

I have the $40 logitech headset I bought at Best Buy. They are USB only, padded earphones, boom mic, and volume button in the cord. Very nice headphones, highly recommend, worth the extra money, and you don't have to screw with the headphone/mic cables.

if you couldnt buy a pair of headphones without owning yourself, then youre a noob. dont people think about whether or not the thing will work before they buy it? jeez.
