        In the console screen :

Console.showfps 1/0 (When enabled shows your current Frames Per Second (FPS) in the top left corner of the screen)
Console.showstats 1/0 (When enabled shows a range of system performance information)

You probably got a 6800 GT, it's a well known problem, mess around with the drivers and pray is the best solution.

It could be because you have V-sync enabled and your gfx card can't produce enough FPS equal to that of your Hz of monitor of your gaming resolution.

V-sync or vertical syncronization, syncronizes the frames that the vid card produces with the refresh rate (Hz) so if you have your monitor at 60Hz FPS will not go higher than 60. Running at higher Hz is often the preferbaly fix rather than just disabling v-sync, that is if you can produce enough FPS.

This means that if you get 200FPS and run 60Hz with v-sync disabled, your FPS counter might show 200FPS but your monitor can't render at 200Hz and this can cause tearing of frames so you get cuts in images and it looks bad. This happens more if FPS produced is higher than the Hz of monitor.

Here is why you could get 30FPS if V-sync enabled:
If you can't render 60FPS because of system limitations but only only FPS below 60 and v-sync tries to sync it, v-sync will try to fit it into 1/2 of Hz next, so in case of 60Hz/2 = 30 FPS. So if you run at 100Hz it will try at 50Hz next if the FPS is below 100 and so on.

So in short if you get FPS below the Hz of your monitor all the time, the benifits of V-sync aren't that great and can be disabled and tearing i minimal.

If you get FPS above your Hz mostly 1) raise the Hz to the highest possible the monitor support at your gaming resolution and 2) enable v-sync to get rid of tearing, as tearing is more frequent if FPS > Hz.

Either way run at highest Hz, if you have LCD you can't get the high Hz like on a CRT so v-sync will limit more on those and that is also a factor to consider when disabling. On a LCD the Hz doesn't limit the FPS that the monitor can render the response rate does, but v-sync will still limit according to Hz. To get the theoretical FPS a LCD can render you take 1000/response time, e.g. 1000/16ms=~60FPS, so the lower response time equals more FPS on a LCD in theory.

OT: Hi LT.INSTG8R, saw your response in the modded driver thread on second read yesterday :hi:

Um, these don't work at all...

I believe what you are thinking is the 'renderer.drawfps 1' command for the FPS display...
