anyone with 128MB video card memory run well?

I have a monster comp.. except that my 6800GT only has 128MB .. i think this is the reason i cant run the game as well as other people with my same setup.

A64 3200+
1.5 GB Corsair
6800 GT (AGP)

runs at 30-40 FPS No matter what settings i change..

i figure if i replace the card witha 256MB card ill get some good performance increases.

the 6800gt 128 is ok but you should have sprung for the 256 versin you could run your textures on high

I get about the same fps as you with everything high and i got a P4 3.0 Ghz 1gb ram and a evga 6600gt 128 mb.

even if i put them on low.. it still gets 30-40 fps.. it sucks..

im gonna swap mine out for my friends 256MB version. see if that helps.

I can't run higher than medium without weak performance so yeah, 128mb sucks on my card at least.

If changing your texture settings to medium or low doesn't make a difference, then upgrading to a 256MB video card won't make any difference for you. Lack of video card memory will be noticable as laggs or stutters when entering a new area of the map, or looking around over a large area from a plane, chopper or high building. It won't usually manifest itself as constant low frame rates while standing still.

I have a 128MB Radeon 9800XT, textures at medium, no problems.
(Coupled with Athlon XP-Mobile @ 2500MHz, 1GB Corsair XMS-Pro PC3200-CAS2)


If you have the confidence (and motherboard) maybe try giving that 3200+ a small overclock to see what difference that makes. It's possible your graphics card is being held back by your CPU. If you notice an increase in frame rate, it's probably worth spending the 48 hours of stability testing it takes to push your chip to it's absolute limit. Be aware that even a slightly unstable CPU overclock will cause lockups and crashes to desktop in BF2, even if every other game/benchmark/test runs OK, so make sure you know what you are doing!

128mb GF6600GT AGP, Athlon 64 3200+ and 2gigs Corsair ram running in dual channel... 1024x768@100hz. All settings on medium, except shadows = off, 2xaa . The game is smooth all the time, with 50-100 FPS on 64 player servers... I could put some settings up but quite happy with the total smoothness and how it looks.

There's something wrong with your set up if you're only getting 30-40 fps.

Throwing more money at your PC is taking a hammer to crack a nut. The only performace increase you're likely to see with a 256mb is textures on high, and tbh there's hardly a difference between high and medium. However if your PC is not running sweetly, then you will not get the full benefit of the card.

Have you tried Driver Cleaner and reinstalled the Nvidia drivers?

Once you've changed, and applied your in game graphics settings, have you closed the game, explored \My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache folder and deleted the "{D7B71E3E-43B1xxxx" folder(s) before restarting the game?

Thats not true, I can so tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 + fps.

BTW my 128Mb 6600GT gives me 60 + fps on medium settings with no AA.

I'm quite happy, after posting the above, got curious; moved landscape, effects and geometry to high, with only a slight performance decrease on 64 player, 40-90 fps.. :)

btw, for those who have only 1.5 or 1gb of single channel ram, switching to dual channel smoothed the game out nicely for me.

Game runs smooth at approx 40-90 fps and looks great imho. If you've a similar system and your performance stinks, try the tips in my previous post before going out and spending unnecessary cash.

I had a ATI Radeon 9800 pro and it was 128mb and it ran great...but i wanted to max out everything so i went with the Radeon x700, which is smooth as buttah! im going to eventually upgrade again, but not for a couple of months... if you want a suggestion, i would go with an ATI Radeon x850, its a very nice card, and not too terribly expensive...but thats just me, im not trying to run anyones life or their computer............or am i?????
