Why does it LAG with so much awesome computer

i have 3.0 ghz processor, 128 ati 9600 mobility card, 80 gb hard drive, 2gb of ram. my internet speed is 3 mbps. my settings are medium at 1024x768. my computer loads a map in under 30 seconds. even then it is so laggy, i dont get it. counter strike source works just fine but dont understand this problem. but when i play at 800x600 it doesnt lag that much. what is the problem please please help me out.

Well after looking at your specs I assumed your video card was the weaest part of your rig, a search confirmed this. I found that your card has "GPU Core Clock 351MHz, Memory Clock: 229MHz" which I slower than my sissy x300 PCI X.

You mention turning down the resolution decreases the lagginess, I suggest running the game on low settings and 800x600 resolution and see how it performs then. Thats actually how I run it now and my FPS is 30-40. Can't wait for my x850xt to arrive...

BTW I also have 3 Ghz processor and 1.5 gigs of ram.

Yeah, i'm guessing you have a laptop (mobility radeon), that's all in all a sick laptop except for the vid card, get something like a Go6800 or higher for your laptop, that'll get you to high probably considering your other settings.

I am having somewhat similar probs, I just shelled out a crapload of money on this rig and peeps are getting into the game way before me?
Sometimes it stops ingame for about a second or two every couple of minutes to load something.... I can hear the HD going mad at this point...
          DFI Lanparty SLI-DR mobo
          AMD64 3800+
1 GIG of Corsair platinum ram (ultra low latency)
37 GIG WD RAptor 10k HD SATA
          256MEG AUSUS Extreme 6800 Ultra 425/1100
          600Watt PS
120mm Case fans and a zalman fan on the CPU

Maybe something is wrong when I put the thing together is there a website that checks that everything is running the way it should?
What is a good 3dmark for that machine I am getting around 6000 I think.
          Help!

i got medium at 1024x768. lagging is just a matter of changing the resolution.
when i change it to 1024x768 it starts lagging but when at 800x600 at the same medium setting it lags far less.

With 1GB of ram you should have no more than medium on the graphic quality settings. Exceptions are Anti-aliasing, texture-filtering and view distance. You can also try geometry on high if the other settings work ok. I run audio on hardware, medium quality and eax enabled on my Audigy 2. That seemes to reduce memory usage a bit.
