    Strange Online Lag

Ok I got my video performance problems handled I think. For the past few days when I go into any server no matter the ping from 20-90 it seems as if I lag every 5 seconds. Its like a short hickup then it does it again and again. I dont have auto updates on or any dumb firewall up. Im not sure whats the problem, could I be on some bad ISP server thing. My connection is at 2 megabits per second as tested and thats about what I get all the time, 2 to 2.5 megabits. Is this just a game bug or is it some kind of ISP lag?

Sounds like a sound problem, this is a common discription of it atleast. If you have an Audigy2 click the link in my sig, otherwise toy around with the settings, and try updating your drivers, things like that.

I was having the same problem you describe. Beautiful, smooth singleplayer play, but horrible laggy multiplayer online play. Whenever i would move my mouse to look around it was like the rubberband effect.

I tried many different things to troubleshoot the problem, adjusting video & audio settings in-game, removed my router, changed network cards, etc. to no avail.

I finally thought to remove the BF2 Demo. I thought that maybe there could have been some old net code, or registry settings that were conflicting with the latest patched retail version. After removing the demo in add.remove programs and rebooting, it was like night and day. I was finally getting the same smooth gameplay that I had in singleplayer.

So, remove the DEMO, and let me know if it helps.

I have the exact same problem, and I still haven't found a fix. Everything was fine till a few days ago when it just started lagging for no reason, I tried updating catalyst drivers, audigy drivers, virus checks, spyware checks, updating pb, everything I could think of and still nothing. I can't play MP at the moment, it blows

              It's probably a game bug...

I don't have the demo, I uninstalled a month ago but I appreciate your help. Right now I blame my ISP because I just tried CS:S and I had the exact same rubberband effect there too.

                      Re: Strange Online Lag

Yep and it really sucks hehe, driving vehicles is impossible at the moment, if I try making a turn I always end up in a wall. Even walking around is impossible, view keeps twitching and lagging, I end up either staring at the sky or the ground making 360 or 180 turns every second. I also keep getting the "There is a problem with your connection" message. I'm going to reinstall the game to see if that helps but I doubt it, since CS:S was also fudged, I think I'll call my ISP and insult them a bit.

never hurts to uninstall and reinstall the game, sometimes that works...

Yes i cut and pasted it from a post but have you done this?

Lower your pings by unloading the cache files.. (worked for me, after, i installed the patch).
Before uninstalling cache files 6 times normal ping, i got normal pings again after deleting cache files

[/COLOR]Start > My Documents > Battlefield 2 file > mods file > bf2 > cache > any files that look like {D7B7E2-080C-11F-C7-3AC2CB} ( or something like that ) open it/them and delete all that is inside.

You can also delete files that retain the servers logos sigs and info kept on your pc
Start > My Documents > Battlefield 2 file > LogoCache > delete any and all files in LogoCache.

You do not need these files the game runs just dandy for me without them.

The files retain your in game vid settings and current in game vid settings are restored when you join a game, removing them saves the CPU spending time and resources from sorting out which to use.

But do it at your own risk (OK)
