Still getting wierd video lag - Ideas?

I think this is pretty common and we may just all have to suffer through until the patch, but I thought I'd post here in case somebody found a solution.

Bascially when playing BF2 both online and SP, I occassionallly, but regularly get video lag where my screen just freezes from 3-4 seconds then continues on. This is not Ping lag, as I've looked into that, but where my GPU actually freezes for a few seconds then continues.

It happens regularly too, usually one freeze every few minutes of gameplay and really sucks when I'm flying a BH full of Squad mates low to the ground.

In fact because of this bug I've given up flying completely as it always causes me to crash.

All my drivers are updated and my computer is new with a fresh BF2 install.

Any ideas?

EDIT:

OK I deleted the cache files in my Docs/BF2 folder (had 4 differnt ones in there) and am updating PB now. We'll see if this fixes it and I'll post my results here.

Umm good question, I don't think so but I'll check after 20 minute of sustained BF playing. Hadn't thought of that. It's not OC'd and my system runs cool at 41C with sustained gaming.

Ok so I updated PB and cleaned out my cache and unfortunately I'm still getting the 'freezing' video lag so it appears to be a bug of some sort. I did check my GPU temp and it was within normal ranges even after gaming for 30 minutes.

So if anyone has additional ideas as to how to fix this, I'm all ears.

do a defrag and a disk clean up. then join. also if ur playing it on high, try playing it on mid. c if there is a difference. yes i noe ur specs r good for high. but u need to play around wit the graphic settings.

Tired that too, no luck. Put everything on Medium, defragged and went to play both online and SP. Still happens.

I also heard it might have seomthing to do with the Sound card when you enable hardware accellertion. So I tired putting sound to software and medium but it still does it.

I'm going to try one last thing and if that still doesn't work I'll wait for the patch.

It must be a bug.

Today all the sudden everytime i turn on BF2 it will freeze for like 1 min. I will click connect to connect with my account name and password. 1 min later it will work, then i cant click on anything else. if i click on something i have to wait 1-2 min and then it loads. Its redicules. It sounded kinda like your problem. I can hear the music of the game playing in the backround and it sounds fine.

Your motherboard (don't blame MSI it's Nvidia's fault) has a problem like most Nforce3 motherboards with GF 6800 cards and fastwrites. You seriously need to go into the BIOS and turn off fastwrites to see if that is what causes the problem. I'm pretty confident that will fix it. Some brands like BFG seemes to run ok with fastwrites but others like Gainward will freeze up.

You're right, but you are also wrong.

I have a MSI Neo2 (w/ nForce3 chipset) and a 6800 Ultra, and I have had fastwrites disabled since last October given the known stuttering problems. I have been stutter free for almost a year now until I installed BF2. No, there is something else going on in BF2 that is causing this lag.

And as noted by the thread started, it's NOT a ping issue. I'll lag even in single player! :cry:

Personally, I think it's just that Dice's graphic engine isn't too terribly optimized. Even though my FPS is averaging 100 FPS, I'll only lag when there is a sudden change in scenery: I rotate my view too quickly close to a building (and the building comes into view), I go into zoom mode and fire my AT rocket, etc.

increase agp apperture to 256 if that dosent help try 512 (only some mobo suports 512)

This happened to me as well, just freezes for like 5 to 10 seconds and then respsonds. I have no idea how to fix it.

I have a MSI K8N Neo socket 754 right now and have also had an MSI K8N Neo Platinum. My graphic card is a Gainward GF 6800 Ultra. 2 x 512 MB Patriot XBL 3200, Sempron 3100+ overclocked to 240fsb. When I ran with fastwrites enabled I got periodic freezes in BF2. Now I run with fastwrites and sideband adressing disabled and BF 2 runs just fine. Graphic settings are all medium 1152x864 except view distance 100%, anti-aliasing 2x and texture filtering on high. I'm using an Audigy2 and audio in BF2 is set at Hardware, medium quality and EAX enabled. I have no problems in BF2 now with stuttering or random freezing. One other thing I have changed in the BIOS is the HTT speed which the latest BIOS reduced to 4x by default.
