You know... After 9/11 there was a big fuss in the media and colleges in the US (my college included) about how 'Jihad' doesn't mean holy war but simply to 'strive.' It became "culturally offensive" and "politically incorrect" to refer to the 9/11 attack as a Jihad or use that word at all.
Know what I did? I went to the source, I read the Koran. Yep, I'm not Islamic, but I read it (just like I've studied the Bible even though I'm not a Christian). You know what? It's a bloody book. Lots of good stuff about the most certain way to enter Heaven is as a martyr against the Infidel. Now, in that spirit, I recommend YOU go out and read the Koran and not take my word for what follows. Stop here, go read the thing, then come back.
Ok, so you're not going to do it, well here's my 'opinion' on what Jihad means. I can't read the original language in which the Koran was written (NOT by Muhammed by the way, he was illiterate as even Muslim scholars and historians confirm) but in the English translation I believe Jihad DOES mean Holy war. Only when taken out of context does it mean simply 'to strive' much in the same way as the word 'war' has nothing to do with death out of context. War only means two sides fighting eachother, but the CONTEXT makes it clear that people die in war.
You see, again and again the Koran states that Infidels are not to be tolerated. Those who do not convert are to be killed. Therefore, the only way to strive against infidels is to kill them, pure and simple, until there are no more infidels left (The Koran is also very clear on that). This sounds like war to me. Also, as this action is mandated by 'The Prophet' as well as the surest way to enter heaven (and collect your 72 virgins) is to die in this "Striving (to eliminate all infidels)" it sure sounds 'Holy' to me. So... put it in context, the context provided by the Koran not the media, and "Jihad" means holy war.
Let me know what you think, especially those of you who bothered to read the Koran (Quran, or other spellings) yourselves.Comment

And all this about Jihad, i dont mind, it does mean holy war, and all these terrorists have shaken the word jihad into something it was not ment to be, and the media has made it worst so discussing about jihad will leave to many problem so i suggest we leave it be, trust me i have been to many organisations that have pondered the thought about jihad and it still wont clarify its direct meaning...Comment
