    Forced video settings?

I'm starting to suspect that the EA servers and a few others force the players to use the medium setting for dynamic light or shadows, I'm not sure which. This is because my system is not the best and so I have all shadows and lightning settings on low. This means that if I walk into a room/building there won't be any dark corners or anything, it's all lit up like if it was outside. This of course makes it easy to see anybody hiding, whilst people who have these settings on medium or high will have a harder time seeing people. I've connected to many servers and found this feature automatically turned on, and this for me causes lag to such an extent that I can't play. The funny thing is that when I look in the video-preferences afterwards, it's all back to normal.

I can see why they would do this, seeing how it's easier to spot someone when you have the feature turned off, I just want to know if it is true that they actually force you to play with this on? Or is it my game/system that's screwing with me? If they force players they could've at least had some "low spec" servers for us with not the most powerfull hardware...because for me now all the EA servers are out of the equation.

You aren't "forced" to play on any setting. If you have trouble seeing people in dark spots turn off shadows.

I have them off, that's what's wierd, but as soon as I join a certain server they'll be on like magic! I've even been able to compile a short list of which servers this happens on and not!

HAH you know I thought it was something I did,but now you proved otherwise.I had that happen to me yesterday in of all places a 64 Person Server.I have a decent spec machine (P4 3.2E ,1Gig Corsair XMS Dual Ch.,X800 XT,SB Audigy 2 ZS 19" LCD)I run at 1280x1024, High,Medium textures and 4xAA but I turn off shadows and run the Dynamic Lighting at Low for smoothness sake, yet there where the shadows and the clunkieness associated with it.
Its good I wasnt imagining it thanks.
