    When is collateral damage acceptable?

I'm convinced that the majority of players are unfamiliar with collateral damage given the high punish rates. It's unfortunate because your team is more effective when you have a tolerance for it. As commander, it makes since to artillery an area of five enemies even if it might mean taking out one or two friendlies. But you cannot without fear of being punished and auto-kicked. Likewise, throwing grenades into into the enemy front line even if one of your teammates has over advanced. Occasionally, I'll plant C4 around a flag pole. Almost invariably a teammate, even after having been notified, will engage the enemy attempting to take the base at point blank range. Often you have a limited window of opportunity to blow the charges to take out the enemy squad. But if you do, you will kill your teammate and be punished. In a game, if you can take out twice as many enemies as friendlies, why not? Sure there are exceptions when this would not be advantageous but generally it is. So next time, put the egos aside and take one for the team. I'll do the same.

Collateral damage is imo acceptable when the friendly-unfriendly death ratio is 1:3. In the case of saving a flag this might be 1:2, but only if it's the last option. If your team mate is sneaking up onto two enemies with a good possibility of killing them, I wouldn't find it acceptable.

      I accept being TKed if:

-I'm almost anywhere on the map Karkand.

-I advance too quckly in front of my squad and get grenaded.

-I walk infront of a friendly rifle.

-Friendly arty strike (unless totally stupid)

      -Vehicle runs over me.

      -Engie mine.

      -Friendly booby-traps

In my opinion it is OK as long as you gain more tactically than you lose. I don't think ratios are always correct because each situation is unique. For instance if my team had captured all of the other flags, and an enemy was about to capture a neuted one allowing his team to spawn pretty much any amount of friendly damage would be justifiable.

That's the best thing about playing with people you're comfortable with. Get a clan, and play some scrims. I have yet to see a clan punish it's own members when in a game. They'll assume that you did it accidently (which SHOULD be the truth), and forgive you. As you would do the same for them.

There are a number of servers out there (mostly clan-owned), where people actually work together and forgive each other. Ocassionally a person or two is the exception, but the majority of the server plays together and enjoy themselves. If you can catch one of these servers and become active in it, all the more power to you.

Finding a group of people to play with, enough to at least fill a squad makes the punishes go a lot down.

in a match, sometimes you have to take out a few of your guys to get rid of a tank or something. No time to get everybody clear.

In a pub, sometimes it's ok to take out a friendly if you have no other option. But be prepared for the punish.

WTF did you do that for? I was about to singlehandedly take out their whole army.

You'll all be singing a different tune when you're on the receiving end of 'collateral damage'. Like when youre a spec ops putting c4 on a tank, and a friendly tank takes his shot, killing you and the enemy.

Or when you're using stealth to capture a flag and 2 friendly grenades find themselves in your lap.

Well, I would agree with you if this actually happened to me as "collateral" damage. I've always got at least one guy on my team that has a kill percentage of just "collateral" damage.
