Connection problem

Hi all,

I've got a lost connection to server problem. I can usually play, (from a fresh reboot) for anything between 30mins to 1.5hrs. I've checked the temps of MoBo, CPU & Gfx card as soon as this happens and they are 32, 39 & 59 respectively so I don't think it's temp related, (that was after 1.5hrs play).

If I try to rejoin the server I can but I usually lose connection again within 10mins.

My system:
A8N sli Deluxe, 4400 dual core, 1x 7800gtx, 2Gb ddr 400 Corsair (2x 1Gb), Audigy2 plus HDD's DVD's etc.
XP Pro +SP2 + updates +DX 9.0c

Connection 4 Mb

We finished building my sons PC yesterday which is identical to mine except his MoBo is the Premium edition & his 7800gtx is a pre overclocked version.

My son doesn't get this problem with his PC and we share the same connection so it can't be that.

BF2 obviously looks and plays great but this connection problem is a real bummer and slowly but surely putting me off the game

Any ideas?

If you are using a Router, try updating the firmware. That should solve general problems.

Im getting the same problem.. I have a cable connection / am NOT connected to a router. If I had a connection problem my internet would not work after I quit out of the game... THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAME!!

Please fix it.

If you are using a Router, try updating the firmware. That should solve general problems.

No router here I'm afraid

We did notice something when we compared our bios settings. We had neglected to adjust my sons memory timings and it was only running at 266mhz instead of 400mhz. So we put my sons PC to what it should be. He too then started to get this lost connection bug.

I think therefore that BF2 has some sort of memory fault/bug or is just OVER sensitive to particular memory timings.

Same problems here. Cable modem (2-4Mb), no router, no wireless. Sometimes it takes me several attempts to find a game I can stay in, as often I'll lose connection within the first 5 minutes. Eventually I'll connect to a server where I stay connected for a round or 2, but it never lasts longer that that. Doesn't happen with any other games.

I do have the occasionaly temporary connect problems too...where the game lags for a 10 seconds or so. If that were the extent of the problem, I could deal with it. I almost wonder if maybe the default server timeouts are set too low, and that the server itself is intentionally disconnecting people who are lagging for more then a few seconds.

I get the same problem. It's really quite annoying sometimes when it happens. I join a server and it dumps me in BFHQ with the "connection to server lost" pop up. I join another, same again after a few minutes. Repeat this like five times, even with rejoining the same servers. When you spawn, find a vehicle, start driving then lose connection, you can imagine it's quite frustrating.

My rig is very similar to the original poster's. I read somewhere on this board about the possibility that Punkbuster picks up the disused secondary LAN connection on the nForce 4s and it 'faults' that and ejects you from the server. I don't know if there is any validity to this. I tried going into my bios and disabling the secondary LAN there, but I don't think this has helped.

It's really odd though. I've been playing on a server with my friends one night for like 2+ hours with no problems. Then a day later on the *same* server I get dumped after like 2-3 mins of joining, over and over. It got to a point the other night where I'd double click to enter a server and get the pop up screen before even loading anything. O_O

Interestingly, rebooting seemed to stem the flow of lost connections. Why that would be is beyond me.

if you are having problems with your connection state what kind of connecton, i.e. cable, dsl, 56gay, etc. also please state your service provider. i was having problems last night just logging into BF2, but have never had problems like that before. i connect to the web with comcast (cable modem) and typically pull down over 3Mbit. i've heard that comcast is rolling out 'upgrades' in various areas and it has been causing some intermittent connection problems. anyone heard the same or have a similar situation?

Have you tried lowering your memory timings? I've put mine to back to default maybe a touch lower in fact. I can now get about 2-3hrs play before this problem starts happening again. Then, (like yourself), I do a reboot and the problem goes away for another couple of hours.
