Auto Balance mod Please help

Hi all,

I'm a server admin for Raging Rebels Ranked 1.02 BF2 Ranked server and I want to modify the python file to fix the autobalance problems of commanders/squad commaders/squad members getting team swapped.

I saw this done on here before but can't seem to find the code that needs to be added edited etc to the python file to fix this. Also I want to make sure this is allowed but from what I have seen this should be ok but have not have any definite word from EA about this.

I know this will most likely be fixed in the next patch but we are sick of waiting for the game to work correctly when it may only be a few lines of code away from getting the auto balance to work correctly.

I also saw that someone had modified the code so it recognised clans tags and ingnored them in the auto balance as well that would be cool to add also. We pay big dollars for our ranked server and something that is meant to be a team game we can never end up on the same team and when we do, sure enough it will do something stupid like switch the commander/squad commander/squad members to the other team.

most likely, you cannot edit them. I'm not an expert, but settings like that, are to remain what EA says they should be.

I absolutely hate autobalance. I would prefer it be off. Hell, this week, i have spent more time trying to get back with my teammates, than fighting for the other team.

Waiting in the corner, for the other side to be down a player. It seem i'm the only one that gets switched. We all can load in and i get in, just as i get my bearings on what team were on, i get switched before i can get spawned in.

AFAIK there are a lot of ranked servers out there with autobalance edited such as the server run by www.battlefield2-legends.co.uk @ 83.142.229.87:18567 (ranked)

So far EA don't seem to be delisting them and not classing them as ranked (something I think they can do if you 'play' with settings that you're not supposed to). Now some say that it's 'cos they're too busy with fixing the actual game while I think that such a fix will appear in a future patch so they are unlikely to clamp down on servers who modify this script.

From what I can tell this is ok to modify. It also says its ok on EAUK's site, however I still haven't received any official confirmation from EA on this.

Do you know whether it will swap people if everyone is in a squad. I don't want it to unbalance the game if one side are all in squads it should swap the last to join or the lowest score because for some reason you join a game an instantly start as USMC then someone dies and it teamswaps them.

i didn't think you could do it on a ranked server? how can you access the necessary files? the whole point of ranked servers is to stop people modifiying the files?

I wouldn't say that ranked servers are just there to stop you from changing the files. From what I've picked up there are a lot of server admins who have physical control over their ranked server. They either work for the company or know someone who does. Often a phone call to the hosting company can get files modified also but it all boils down to what you want changed and if the company thinks it'll be a 'risk' or not.

Many hosts offer ftp access by default so you wouldn't even have to ask first :)

If you have 19 people on MEC in 3 different squads and a commander then they'll never get switched and the server will try to keep 19 players on the USA side. It doesn't do anything fancy like moving the last person to join or the player with the lowest score which is what most of us really want.


The latest version of BF2CC does this for you anyhow, switching lone-wolf players before squads and commanders (i.e. it will split up squads but only if it really needs to). But in order to run BF2CC it needs to be installed on the ranked server so again you'd need to contact your hosting company.
