Dont you think i should be able to run at high

ok here are my PC specs

    AMD AThlon xp 2600+
    1 gig pc3200 ddr 400 ram
    6600gt Agp 8x
    Audigy 2zs sound card

my freind has all that but a 9800 pro instead of a 6600gt and he claims he can run at high :hmm:

Hmm, I have a 9800pro and I run almost all settings at high, with 20 bots thrown into the bargin too. I think two settings are on medium, textures and lighting...still looks very nice. But that's at 1024x768 with no AA/AF, too.

What happens if you do run on high? FPS too low?

You're friend is a liar, you're card and his can't run the game on full high, atleast at a decent frame rate.

No, you should not be able to run on high with that rig. I have an AMD 64bit 3200+, 2 gigs of ram and that 6600gt agp card and I can run at 1600x1200 with all medium settings except effects on high and 4x AA. Runs very smooth and I am fine with it, I will be getting a new video card sometime the end of this year.

IMO 30-40 fps is not good enough. With the settings I described above I get well over 100 fps, so you "can" run on all high, but I dont like mid 30s fps.

i dunno. running doom 3 at 50 fps and half life 2 at around 50fps compared to bf2 at 30...i cant really tell the difference. its not like i can even notice any studdering int he game, becuase i ususally can when it gets down in the 30's with other games. i wouldnt have thought that i would find my current settings acceptable either. also, when i drop down the resolution and get higher framrates i still cant tellt he difference besides that the game looks worse graphically.

What everyone needs to realise about those who say they can run on high on low spec cards is people have different levels of what they consider playable. Some people really can play at 30FPS and think it is performing perfectly. Its all a matter of what you are used to.

Personally I have a 6800GT plus 1Gb of ram and I still find that setting everything to high does not perform well enough for me. I end up setting the textures to medium to maintain conistent FPS above 60FPS.

You won't notice the difference above 30fps anyway weather your at 30fps or 60 - 100 fps it will perform exactly the same its only when it drops to 20fps you notice performance issues.

This is not true. I understand you saying it as it always gets said when FPS arguments arise but it is a falicy. The way the eye views things can not actually be equated to FPS.

Besides the technicalities anyone who is a FPS whore will tell you you can easily notice FPS drops when playing around with graphics settings even on a drop from say 90FPS to 60FPS.

                        Texture on medium
Dynamic shadows, dynamic light, and AA off. View distance on 100% and the rest on high works fine for me. Running at 1024 x 768

Personally i run on medium. Why, well granted the detail isnt there but you can tell a difference in the frame rates. Im not sure what i run at now but im sure is at least 100fps.
And that rig above with the 128 6600 gt is no way running on high or will ever be able to, exspecially multiplayer ...... sweet dreams....
