You need to setup new key bindings to your joystick in the control options of BF2.

Merlin, thank for your help, boot I has been there and do no know how to do it, I can change keyboard keys, no problem, however the joystick no.

I did try to do it as with the keyboard, with no results, my joystick is a USB one.

Ok, first pull out your USB joystick and plug it back in to get the computer to recognise it. Then go to control panel/game controlers and you should see your JS there. Hit the properties tab and calibrate your JS. You should now be able to set the key bindings in game.

If your joystick is working properly, then there should be no problem; go to assign a button, and press whatever on your joystick.

For movement controls, like up/down, just tilt the stick in that direction and it will set itself up for that axis. If you have a throttle, click on accelerate and move the throttle all the way from zero to one hundred.

            What Merlin suggests sounds right.

My joystick wouldn't react to the bindings I wanted to give it either, after just plugging it in. However, after going to control panel and calibrating it properly, the game recognised it, and I could map controls to it. Like you assign up by pulling back on the joystick, and suddenly it will show up/down "joystick axis #1" in the control. left/right, "joystick axis #2" or something like that. :)
