new vid card.

Hey,

I just bought a new vid card ( x800 pro 256 mb ddr 12 pipes ) for 199 euro which is around 137 pound or 240 dollar.

I dont know if I really picked a good choice but just cause it was so cheap i thought I just had to order it, I now use an 9800 xl 256

Ive looked at the benchmarks and the x800 is better in every way.
Altho i have a little question. When I put the card in, do i need to uinstall my old drivers? Or just put the card in and leave the current drivers, I now have an ATi Radeon 9800 XT 256 and I bought an ASUS AX800 PRO 256. Does that matter or not?

Uninstall the old drivers and Catalyst control center using Add/Remove programs. Then start in safe mode and use DriverClean3 to remove any remnents. Then shutdown, install the X800 and install the new ATI drivers. Don't use the old ones!

Ok, so what I gotta do is:

1 ) Uininstall drivers.
2 ) Shutdown my pc
3 ) Use driverclean to remove rests of the drivers?
4 ) Shutdown my pc
5 ) Get my old vid card out, put the new in
6 ) Install new drivers?

Or what if I want to format directly when I got the new card in, cause my pc needs a cleanup anyway. How would I do that?

I think its like this-

Uninstall drivers from Control panel

-restart

Boot in safe mode and run driver cleaner pro

-turn off and install new vid card

install new drivers.

-defrag hardrive

If you're formating the machine and installing a fresh OS then:
1.) Shutdown the machine
2.) Remove old card
3.) Install new card
4.) Place XP(or whatever OS you're installing) Disc in drive
5.) Turn on the machine
6.) When prompted boot from CD
7.) Install XP
8.) Install all necessary drivers ie. Video, Audio, NIC..;l
9.) Install BF2
10.) Enjoy.

If you don't want to go through the hassle of a complete install of XP and just want to change the video card then you got it right when you said this.

You should use a driver cleaner to get rid of the left over drivers in the registry. Add/remove will get rid of the current drivers but not in the registry.
