    Hi all...

    First of all, I'm sorry for my poor english, i'm french....

    I'm proud to annonce you i'm currently working on a custom map that i hope will become a custom mod...
    It's based on the "operation restore hope", Mogadishu, october 3, 1993, base of the "Black Hawk Down" movie.
    I know it as been a lot talked about in this forum, but i'm making a set of 4-5 maps covering the entire operation in a realistic "objective-like" style.
    I'm currently working from US military satellit pictures taken the day of the raid, to improve the realistic effect of the maps.

    The first map i'm working on covers :
    - The insertion of the US Rangers at the Olympic Hotel,
    - The beginning of the humvees convoy from the Olympic Hotel,
    - The raid on target building,
    - The road to the 1st crash site.

    I'll respect the geography of the city and the way the convoy must get to the crash site. The map is 400m x 300m, with a lot of building, all the CP are capeable except the US insertion zone, and there is only one unique way for the convoy to reach the objectives (Olympic Hotel -> target building -> 1st crash site).
    This map is only ground, with the humvees convoy at a side, and a few Somalian jeeps at the other.

    I plan to use a realistic mini-mod like bfe-0.66 (very good balance IMO) to improve the reality of the game and to make it difficult. I plan to disable the commander Arty. I think i will tweak the ticket ratio and the team balance to improve the realistic-side of the map.


    Other maps should be :
    - The road to the olympic hotel (start of the operation)
    - the road to the second crash site
    - a night map where US Rangers must keep their building waiting for the Delta Forces
    - a very large map which cover the complete city with airport, Rangers HQ, blackhawks, littlebirds. The only uncapeable CP would be the airport, and the US must go through the city to cap all the objectives. The goal is to make the use of the choppers very difficult, trying to cover the grounded rangers and the convoy.

    At this point of my work, I've finished drawing scaled-satellit pictures of the city on the paper and i start working with the editor.


    If anyone has ideas on this, i'm very waiting for some usefull help to make my map/mod very fun...

    I like the sound of it. Can't really give you any extra ideas until I see those sattelite photos otherwise its a bit like shooting in the dark. If made well should provide some interesting fights.

      sounds good hmmmm cant think of anything off the top of my head except maybe play the game BHD and get some ideas have made alot of top custom maps for that game enjoy them to

        Remember it's only a first-pre-beta version... if you have ideas...

                btw i'v been to Mogadishu and saw both crash sites,#1 was on its right side and #2 was landed-like crash

                          Here are a few sat maps i'm working from...
                          I know my map is not really satellit scaled, but it's just a test to see if it should be fun in a very large map/very large city. And i hope this one should be very fun, as the operative zone is well sized...
                          This one is just 400m x 300m, the final version must be 8km x 5,5km... but i don't know if the BF2 engine can do that... we'll see later...

                          For the question, i worked on this map for 15 hours...
                          Thanks Super Six for the details concerning the crash zones, i'll fix that soon...
                          And for the editor, i can't say nothing exept that i found it on a p2p network, and it's mainly working ok... except for a few bugs, but it's working... ... very powerfull but a little difficult to use...

                          Rendez-vous for fresh news a little later today, i hope i'll be able to add bots and to test it ingame...

                            if you wanna know how the lost convoy went here it is:Convoy waits behind the hotel,moves to target building,drives past crash site once,convoy ask for directions,realized they were sending to other crash site and turns around,Convoy drove past crash site again,McKnight were sperated from the rest of convoy,The Lost Convoy has too many wounded and convoy returned to base, thats how The Lost Convoy went
