both ribbon and badge for ground defense says "stay in TOW/mounted machine gun blah blah"

I can figure what a TOW is..but do you know what counts as a "mounted machine gun" ? Just to be sure

i think only tow counts not a mounted machine gun

i stayed in a machinegun and got ground defence, not tow

You can use a mounted LGM. I used one on Strike on Karkand for the ribbon.

i got my ribbon by taking down two attack choppers with the same TOW without dying haha.

but whey they say "mounted machine gun", does that mean the back of a jeep gun? sandbags gun? stuff like that? (sorry, i'm not english and not too familiar with weapons names :-))
