    Really quick RAM question.

    Quick question, whats better, DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) or DDR 400 (PC 3200)?

The PC4200 should be... it will allow tighter timings at your native mem speeds (PC3200 or DDR400)

DDR2 is twice as fast as DDR so the 4200 is much better than the 3200.

ahahah now my computer is better than his.

We both have X800XL, 1GB DDR2 for me and DDR for him and AMD 3500+. I hate hime because he got the same system as me.

Yours supports faster speeds...... PERIOD. Now the timings could be a little different though...

Haha, well you are running Intel he is running AMD. AMD does not support DDR2 yet, and really they have no need to. Their benchmarks are just as good, if not better.

And DDR2 isn't that big of a jump. I have DDR2-5400 (625mhz or some rediculous crap) and planned to OC my P4, but the P4 runs way to hot. Now if your brother were to get some high rated ram, say PC-4000, he could technically OC his AMD and RAM and have a faster system.

AMD won't support DDR2 until later this year at the earliest (they are coming out with a new over 1000-pin socket).

That's simply not true. Maybe in theory, but in real-world performance there's not much of a difference. I'd say DDR2 is better, but not twice as fast by any stretch of the imagination.

Here's some benchmarks OP, a good read: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mem.../ddr2-ddr.html

DDR2 SDRAM has become faster! Earlier we had to admit that memory of that type had a lower performance than ordinary DDR400 SDRAM in real applications due to a too high latency, but now it’s time to revise this supposition. New DDR2-533 SDRAM modules with timings reduced to 3-3-3 can challenge fastest DDR400 SDRAM sticks, and this means that one of the main disadvantages of the LGA775 platform is eliminated.

PC3200 Is better, purely because you can buy a gig of it and you wont need to chop an arm off to pay for it.

Pc3200 benchmarkwise is just as fast currently as so called 'faster memory' going for ram faster than pc3200 at the moment is a complete waste of money.
