tracking down players ??

found a few good folks during a game
how can they be tracked down after?
do not type fast enough during game to invite them to clan,
or even when I do, most folks do not read the screens anyway
and during good battles, the text flies by so fast

Try playing again in the same server where you found them. I usually see some of the same folks if I stick to a few good servers.

I hear ASE is good for that....but I don't use it.

If they registered at BF2tracker I think you can PM them there.

User Game-Monitor.com to find them online. ASE seems a bit flakey to be, for example it doesn't retrieve all the connected users for each server.

Next to their stats you can see if they are online, and where they play (server)

just re-visit the same good servers. check to see if they are run by teams. go to the teams' forums and make yourself known. chances are the repeat players on the server are doing the same.
