SLI performance on BF2

im sure u can....i only know of one person and hes using twin 6600GT's not 6800's...his system is really stable though and obviously runs bf2 very well.

You cant do this now with the 6800 GT and your cpu?? jeez i thinks you may have some problems, if not JUST HOW MANY RESOURCES does it take for god sake????
Im sure ive heard of ppl running on higher res, all on full with a lower spec comp than yours.

Have you got AGP or PCI-Express slots? If PCI-Express I might be inclined to go for a single 7800 GTX over an SLI set-up with 6800GT's as a single 7800 GTX will outperform SLI 6800GT's and a single card set-up is just better due to reduced system complexity. You don't have to worry about the extra power requirements, heat output or dodgy SLI driver support.

Of course if you have AGP then forget the above and go for the SLI option. It might be an idea to wait a month of so though with the 7800 series cards starting to be more widely available as the 6800GT price will likely drop quite a bit.

wtf u cant run sli on agp, only on pci...and do they make 7800's on AGP? also they will soon make the 7800GT and vanilla ones which willbe good but cheaper.

TrippleB, you probally wont see a huge increase in FPS but you will be able run everything on mega high with max AA making it look sexy as fook

I have PCI-E (asusA8N-SLI deluxe), and my system is set right (no spyware, viruses, background apps running while in game...heck i have all but crit programs run at statup, drives defraged, paging file min/max matched etc etc...nuff to say i am streamlined and tweaked out with good drivers and all)

well with regards to the 7 series and new tech, I may just wait till the fall. There will be new 7 series cards, and probably low-latency or XL 1 gig ram sticks..seems much better than trying to run 4x512. Of course waiting is always good for new tech.....and I just may sit till next spring and build a new mb/cpu/ram/gpu combo.

But I am still curious about dual 6800GT (heck EA showed off BF2 on dual 6800Us).

Yet I have a good card already, and with 7800 MSI cards at 450-470 on newegg I suspect the 6800GT is on its way down below 300..and if I can get great performance out of it why not drop 250-300 (and have fun with the complications) than spend 500-550 (though a 7800 may be better overall).

And as a flame to the posts that claim to get 1024x1280 res with ALL settings to high and 4xAA with an avg of 60-70 frames and an absolute min of 55 frames with a 2800+ 1gig and a 6600...well I will say that those who know computer performance, and play this game know how those claims stand up...though those guys may be better tweakers than I and props to them in that case as I am a noob with adv tweaking.

I get good performance on my system now(high cept lighting on med (FR up to 90s but seems to drop to 40's in uberstress situations), but I am a closet nerd and love to build stuff (as much as playing), so why not see if I can tweak out top performance with $500 (ram and card instead of just card for more $$$)

EA invested a lot into the dev of this game, they want to take advantage of this engine for some time to come, to make money it needs to run on a veriety of systems, and look good on the top end ones, but its built to look better and play smoother on the systems of tomorrow too.
