    [BETA Release] Dogfighting/Missiles mod.

I have been recently working on an Air to Air mod that makes things, well, different.

I figured that my current build was complete enough to put it out for testing and feedback. There are probably tons of bugs that I have not noticed and I need to play with someone online to figure them out. I can only play with bots so much for testing.

The primary changes in the mod are this:

    1. Aircraft handling is very different, although they are all around more difficult to fly. If you have played FH you should have an idea of what they fly like now.

    2. View distance increased to 1500, and missile targeting increased to 1000. The missiles still fly at ordinary speeds. I used to have them fly super fast, but due to network issues this caused anyone who joined to never hit with the missiles. The host however was hitting targets at maximum range with no problem. Also with the new handling , they seem to hit more consistently when they fly slow.

Please note, that until the final version the fog is extended only on Kubra Dam. The super ineffecient method of creating mods means that any small change to a map usually means 10mbs added to the file size

    3. Missile lock warning appears only when players is locked. There is no more warning tone when someobody is getting a lock.

    4. All Air to Air missiles kill all Aircraft in one hit.

    5. There are no more flares. Flares make it too easy to dodge missiles. However if the missiles do get to be too powerful I may put them back in.

With all that said and done here is the zip file with the mod in it. There is one part of installing that is extremely important and you can mess up on.

    Installation:

    1. Extract the dogfight folder to the mods directory of Battlefield 2
    2. Open the dogfight folder and then open levels. In there run the .bat.
    3. Once the levels are finished copying, go to the dogfight folder.
    4. There is a folder named "COPY CONTENTS OF THIS FOLDER TO LEVELS." Do just that, copy the kubra dam folder into the levels directory and overwrite the file.
    5. Start up Battlefield 2 and activate the mod.

Edit: Server is down for the rest of the day
For now I have a server up and running for the mod.
    Server name: Roflcopter
    Password: shazbot
    Server IP: 65.34.141.241

EDIT: Back, I am on the server again.

    QUINTIPLE EDIT
Here is the best download link:

Click free at the bottom then wait for the download to start.

Edit: New link without the BS

Quadruple Edit: seems this link does not work either.

        Wow, um... thanks I guess.

I am on the server now, and as long as it is up I will be on it. My friend's joystick stopped working so he won't fly and test the missiles out. I need somebody to shoot at me!

In vanilla I never used flares unless I was in situation where I cannot maneuver. It is just way too easy to dodge a missile in the game. I was never shot down by missiles unless somebody got really, really lucky.

But this mod makes missiles more powerful, or at least I think it does, which is why I need a test person to help me out on my server. If the missiles get too powerful I will add them back.

Also I forgot to say in my original post that the fog extends only on Kubra Dam. The Final version will have at least 3 more maps, but the super ineffecient method of distributing mods means that adding the fog change to different maps could make the mod 30mbs bigger.

Sorry for the double post, but this is new information and I think deserving of its post. Not to mention my last post was a couple hours ago.

My friend got his joystick working again and we did more testing. Turns out the missiles are too effective now, and can only be dodged by a lot of luck.

The flares are being added back, but I still do not like the idea of flares and to counter it I am changin the lock system again. I made a mistake with the F-15 code that causes the lock tone to sound only when someone is in the process of locking you up. In the silence that follows, you know you are in some serious trouble and need to start doing something or you will have a missile up your tailpipe.

I like this method because you do not know when the missile is coming, or if they already lost the lock. Raises the tension of the moment quite a bit. You have to watch your back to see if theres a missile heading your way and get ready to drop the flares.

So my to do list as of now:

Fix the J-10: The new physics really do not work for the J-10 and it is seriously screwed up right now. I suggest you try it just for laughs.

Add Flares: Missiles are way too powerful now. They have a 75%-100% chance of hitting depending on the situation

Tweak warning system for all planes: The bug on the F-15 is actually pretty neat and really ups the tension when you get locked on.
