    Configuration problems with controlls!

I have a problem im starting to get really soon to explode and do something ugly with my PC temper

I cant redefine my controlls! As soon i try to do so a annoying box with a message that i have that very controll in use even if it aint in use!
Foe rexample! It says "doubble input with Helicopters" but i dont have that very button assigned on helis?
Can it have anything about the patch V.1.02?

    Help would be appreciated!

find a key that isn't bound to anything (there are a few, but I cant remember which ones)

Bind that key first, then re-bind the key you want.

Happened to me when I couldn't bind my joystick trigger.

it's difficult sometimes because lots of buttons are in use for BF2 even for functions you actualy will never use, and the system has some bugs in it to, this combination makes it realy frustrating to rebound your keys

Aye tried that but didnt work as in the Demo, But its surley a bug as rombaft says!

Its a shame its that hard to just make the game playable with you favor controls! But ill do a test today! I will try to reinstall the game then redifine the controlls and then try the patch and see if it will do any differens for me!

        Thanks for the answeres :)

Same here with L.Shift. I had to uninstall, reinstall, bind L.Shift, and re-patch. What a pain.

            here is the 'total solution'
I have remapped nearly half my keys
            incliding the ones 'not mappable'
because they are in 'common controls'
            go to "My Documents/Battlefield 2/profiles"
you will see *.con for each of your profiles
I think they match the order when you login
(I have 8 on my machine - some before/after clan
            and other family members)
edit in wordpad (NOT notepad) - or whatever will NOT make a *.TXT file
(be sure you make a backup of your CON file first
just right click on the file - hit copy
then right click, hit paste - it wil then make a file called "copy of 0001.con"

            now the fun (hard) part
just read each line (or search if you know how)
for the key you want to use, but cannot
then in front of that line put
            "rem "
(do not use the quotes, and put a SPACE after the word)
(I guess you could probably just delete the line,
but this is how I did it)
now when you edit controls in game - the offending key will be blank, and you can map WHATEVER way you want

            Happy editing

You could try using the Nostromo from Belkin.

I use it with all of my games. Its a keypad that takes the place of the keyboard and you can program it exactly how you want it without having to deal with in-game control conflicts.

                  editing the .con files works!!

                  Quoting Random Skratch:

                  Quote:
Okay finally here's how to remove all those "phantom" bound keys that you can't unbind within BF2.

                  Go to
                  My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles

                  Open up Global.con

Note which profile it's using (I Default, 0001 and 0002 and mine was set to 0002)

                  Open up Controls.con

If you look at the top line for each subsection, it says Infantry, Land, Air, Helicopter, Sea, and Default. Each is pretty self explanatory with the exception of Default. I believe this is what ingame calls "Common".

The bound key is at the end of the line

                  IDKey_Key Name Here

Delete the whole line of the occupied keys you want to change. OR Change it to an unused key of your choice. Some of them were probably taken out last minute (like Left Alt was set to Toggle 3D Map but there is no way to change that ingame. and X is set for Flare in Sea. Can you even fire a flare in a boat? I never tried.)

                  Save the file.

Now you can bind them ingame.

                  Enjoy.

(Perhaps this should be a sticky?)

This seems to be a rather pervasive problem.
