Do the best players care about stats?

Coming from other online games like WC3, I know that the top "ranked" players are usually not the best players. (They are good, but there are still the elite above them..sometimes it is not the case, of course. This could be even more the case with BF2, as teh reward system is based more on experience and playing rather than pure skill.

So do most of the top players not fall in the top ranks? I would guess most top clans just scrim in unranked vs each other.

Well put it this way -- I was playing a few days ago and there were two guys in the game that had 0 kills and 0 deaths and about 250 points each. Towards the end of the game they finally started showing up where I was and they got completely owned. They ended the round with 250+ points, 1 or 2 kills each, and about 11 deaths.

    What does that tell you?

the top players in bf2 are the ones that play the most. there are better players who have a better points/time ratio that arent as high because they dont play all day long like those guys who have crazy amounts of time in the game...i have alot of time in it but im nothing compared to those guys who have like double my time. i dont however thing they are the best, they are just the biggest whores and play the most......if the system had a penalty for dying and losing and points for winning then my opinion would change.

Being a top player is about having a lot of time to play the game. It really does not relate much to skill. Its all about putting in a large amount of hours each day.

Often you will find out these guys are playing 10 hours a day to get to where they are which apart from being unhealthy is impossible to compete with for those of us with fuller lives.

To me, the very definition of a good player contains 'does not care about stats'.

joined a server today where exp.electric was playing and that guy deserves to be top. Following him around in a squad you can see the way he plays he knows what hes doing and knows how to win. He doesnt boast about being top either. Heck the guy let 1/2 people kill him and let them take screenshots of it too  fair play to the guy for having the dedication he has. Certainly when you play on a server with the top guys its a different game and so far has helped me to produce my best bf play so far.

Remember...it's whether they CARE about stats. Since he doesn't care, he's a good player

I haven't checked the leaderboards in a while, but don't be surprised if you see a Bushviper, r:click, and <7ds>Charlie there. I've played with those guys in BFV and they were amazing players. I think it's a good mix of stat padders and 'really skilled' at the top.

Hell no, I get at leasr 2nd every round and I could care less about stats. And playing time doesn't always mean your better. Your good if you have a lot of kills, and encourage teamwork...

Its taken me ages to get my first unlock casue i honestly don t care about stats and so ive decided to use unranked srvrs instead of ranked when i can. If your good you probabaly don t care about stats as most people with high scores are medics and just go around revieing people.

im a medic as well but i only revive those who are around me, if your far away i won t run i ll stay and kill the guy whos killed you.

Stats are really a personal indicator of your progress, rather than a "Here, this is proof that I'm good" type of thing.
You and your good mates know the servers you play on, know the people you play against, and know your play habits. With them, there is some value to saying "omg I'm kicking your booty in plane stats".

To people here on the forums, you may see JoeSchmoe is like the #1 tank guy in the world. What that doesen't tell you is that JoeSchmoe has no job, played 95% of his time on 64 player Strike@Karkland servers infested with noobs. To JoeSchmoe's friends, though, they know where they play, so they can use that to compare/contrast skills.

Plus, it's a great way of tracking your own progress. I noticed that my already low support-gun accuracy dropped signifigantly when I started using the PKM, but I also noticed that my kdr got much better with it. that tells me that it is still working for what I want it to do...suppress and open up lanes for manuevering for my boys to get through. That data is worthless to all of you people, but very valuable to me.
They pass the time when you're not in a match or scrim.
