  • Resolution nitemare!

I hope I can get some serious help on this topic....

& I forwarn all you users out there... Don't set your resolution to the bigest/max
setting that you can in the video preferences or you will find yourself in my position!

I all began when i went into my video settings to see if I could set up the
resolution to look better on my TV output for when I play BF 2.

I was playing it at 1224 by 768 with no problems on the TV.
Then for some stupid reason (Stupid now that I think about it)
I set the resolution at what ever the max setting was in the game video settings. (Something like 2400 by bla bla bla or even higher, but I forget)

Now the game will only start up when I activate my TV output as my Primary
display and even more worse, I can only see the upper left 1/8th of the screen! So now I can't even go back to the in game video settings and put
them back to a resolution that my system is able to display through a monitor!

I have even un-installed the game and re-installed it and the game will only run in TV output mode on my video card (ATI 9550)

There musit be something in the windows registry that has something to do with this video setting because I don't believe it would be in the installed files of the game folder. If that were the case, the last time I did a fresh install of the game, they would have been replaced/reset. So this leaves me to believe this is not the case.

I hope some one can help me out here.....

By the way, I'm in China right now and the version I have is in Chinese,
Everything in Chinese.... Obviously I can't read Chinese so is there any way
I can get the game to install in English or Change over to English?
There is not option for me to install into English language.

    Thanks people!

I'll be checking back every hour or so to get this problem fixed ASAP.

Start the game on your TV. It should allow you to scroll by just moving the mouse around. Then reset it to 800x600x65Hz (if its allowed) as this is pretty much standard for any monitor. Then you can reset it to your monitors highest supported refresh (Hz) and resolution.

The TV output won't allow me to move around the BF screen....

This is one of my points, I can't navigate around the TV screen to be able
      to reset my graphics settings.

ok. Here is what to do. Follow this step by step and your video settings will be set to defualt with out ever going in game:

        1. Open up "My Documents" (C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents)

        2. Open up "Battle Field 2" folder in "My Documents"

        3. Open "Profiles" folder

        4. Open "Global.con" file in "notepad" (right click and choose "open with")

        5. Read and remember the number inside the parentheses ( example: GlobalSettings.setDefaultUser "0002" , Remember the 0002 )

        6. Remember the previous mentioned number and close "Global.con" file

        7. Open the folder with the same number as what you found in the "Global.con" file. ( in my case, foler "0002"

        8. Open "Video.con" file in notepad (same way as step 4)

        9. Select all of the text and delete it.

        10. Copy the below quoted text:

        VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
        VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
        VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
        VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 2
        VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 2
        VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2
        VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
        VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
        VideoSettings.setResolution 1152x864@75Hz
        VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
        VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
        VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

        11. Paste the quoted text in your "video.con" file and then click "file -> save"

        12. Close Video.con file.

        13. Play BF2 and let me own you in my tank.

DytHlt, That was a kick ass solution but, it kinda worked and
          kinda didn't....

I'm not able to open up BF 2 on my monitor still, but I can open up
the game on my TV output.

The intro to the game still plays at that same huge resolution of which
I have no idea what the setting is and thats why it won't open up on my
monitor I believe because the monitor won't accept the resolution.

As soon as I select defult player, it clicks into the start up menue in
800X600 mode and I am able to see the full screen so thats where
          it did work....

But as far as being able to boot into the game on my monitor, nope....
          didn't work.....

50% There....... I hope I can get there all the way!
