I want to buy a new monitor.

I wanna buy a new LCD probly 17" but I know nothing about them. I don't know what response time or any of that junk is. I just want a good monitor that will work well for gaming. Nothing above 300 dollars either. Post some links or the name of one, thanks in advance.

Black...I was wondering, is lower response time better? What else is there to know about monitors.

lower response time is better. you definately want a panel at least 12ms or faster. you also want a monitor that has a high brightness and contrast ratio. the link to the viewsonic above, that panel has a brightness and contrast ratio of 350:1 and a response time of 8ms. unfortunately it only has an analog connection, not dvi. i don't know what kind of vid card you are using, but if you have dvi output, you definately want to use it.

if you can swing it, i would spend the extras cash and pick up this monitor:

19" is a really nice size, this monitor is also has an 8ms response time with a brightness of 300:1 and a contrast ratio of 700:1 which is outstanding. blacks are black, all the colors are very vibrant, no ghosting, etc. this panel gets rave reviews from tomshardware, etc. i went from a viewsonic P95f to this and never looked back. i highly reccomend it.

I have a ViewSonic 19" LCD w/16ms response and I love it. Just make sure your response time is below 25ms, as that or high will cause ghosting. My old 17" LCD was a 25ms and I got ghosting which was annoying, but my new monitor rules.

Is that one any good, I dont really wanna spend over $220

It's gonna be tough for me to even get that much. Maybe I'll sell the PS2 and Xbox, and if I have enough I'll get a 36gb Raptor just for my games

The raptor isn't worth it. I have 2 in a RAID-0 and the performance difference is minimal at best.

Yes that monitor should be good.
