computer not recognizing new memory!

after i got my 9300 laptop i put in an aftermarket transcend 1gb stick in along with the original 256 dell stick. it definiitly pepped up but i just noticed after running everest that the computer only recognizes the 1gb stick, not the 256. i put in the 256 again, making sure it was in all the way, was tight and clicked and all, and restarted. still only seeing the 1gb. i did this about 5 times and still not getting results. an1 know a way thats more surefire? i want to take advantage of the 256, i did pay for it after all thanks in advance

p.s. i made sure b4 i did anything i touched a grounded peice of metal. also i moved the 256 from the DIMM A slot to the DIMM B slot, and put the gig into DIMM A. could have this affected anything?

Mixing memory brands is bad, mmmkay? I would suspect this is the reason, and the computer defaults to the larger chip.

You can run MemTest86 with just the 256 in to make sure its still good.

^^ Also, your laptop may only support 1gig of ram. I dunno

Go to your Bio's and see what is says, check to see what the MHz is like 333
400 or 512 they have to be the same, Some MOBO's top out with DIMM's that are very low and can't show any higher but will run.
I know a guy he said his DIMM toped out at 512mb and he's running 1024mb
lol but the mobo will not last very long doing somethinf like that i would not do that i would just get a new mobo.

9300 supports up to 2 GBs.

Use MemTest86 to check for errors.

Not so, I have had a bad module in my old desktop and my computer booted just fine. I ran memtest86 because I kept getting errors in Windows, and decreased performance, found out one of my modules got fried.
