    connection issues

i have a amd 3500 overclocked to 2.7 ghz. 1 gb dual cahnnel matched ram. 120 gb HD. asus a8n-sli mobo, an xfx 6600gt pci-e vid card and cablemodem.

during the game i ping as low as 19 and spike to over 1000. yes i said 1000. it happens often enough to really be bothering me. most of the time i have some really good games, but it gets really frustrating when this does happen.

does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to fix this? it only happens in bf2. all other programs work perfectly. i'm running xp and have 1.02 installed. i have zone alarm and norton sys works.

    hope all that info helps.
    thanks guys

Have you tried turning norton off? It can effect things as it scans every little thing.

Also, make sure you have the most recent video, sound, and motherboard drivers. If you're using onboard sound turn it to medium and hardware rendering, or just turn it to software.

Let us know if this changes anything.

i dont want to turn off norton since it's virus protection worm protection etc...

as for drivers, i do have the latest vid, sound and mobo drivers. good suggestions. i just changed to hardware rendering medium as you suggested. can't hurt to try that...........i AM using onboard sound so no conflict bet. cards & mobo.

anybody have anything else to try? this really is taking away the enjoyment of a pretty cool game

Trust me, you'll be alright for the time you play BF2. If you have a router especially so.
