    Performance drop after 3+ hours

Hey all. I have noticed a performance drop from 60+ fps to about 15 fps after about 3+hours of nonstop BF2. Could this be BF2 or my system? Seems to be BF2 as every other game I play works great (I.E. HL2, WoW, etc..)

    ASUS A8V Dx
    AMD 64 3200+
    gigabyte gforce 6800 GT
2 gigs of kingston DDR400 RAM
    80 gig HD

every pc needs a break, restart it and then it will be fine. None of those games you describe are as power hungry.

There might be something that just started to run in the background. Say you have something on a schedule and it started running, like AVG or Norton Anti-virus. So make sure that you have nothing scheduled when you play.

You are probably running hot...I have the same CPU and exact video card. It gets real warm after an hour or so, so make sure you have adequate case cooling and ventilation in the room.

But like Choatic said, it sounds like it could be NAV updating in the background. Even if disabled, NAV will still update itself unless you uncheck that option in the menu.

I have found that my Hdd gets severly fragmented after 4+ hourts of play. I defrag 4 times a day. I guess I need more Ram, too much paging.

Re: Performance drop after 3+ hours

Sorry to bump an old thread, but was hoping to find out if anyone else has had this problem and has a remedy/suggestion.

I have 2gb of RAM, antivirus disabled, and fully watercooled system... and after 3 or so hours, it gets jerky as all hell and my HDD chugs. It only works better after a complete system restart.

              thanks!
