    Bf2 proformance help

Alright i dont know what to do but man i think that i have a good comp to run bf2 on all high but when i put it on high it lags. Like i join a server and then turn around real quick and it feels like im getting 10 fps and i dont have a clue y.

i got an AMD althon 2800+,gig of ram, evga 6800gt, now ppl tell me that upgrading to 2 gigs will stop all that lag bs, but im not sure. is it just the comp or should i go for 2 gigs?

    THanks

Yes you will see a major improvment with 2 gigs of RAM. Trust me. I was lagging too and now its flawless after I upgraded to 2 gigs. Try turning down "dynamic lights to MEDIUM. You won't see much of a graphical difference and your game will run smoother. Also check you Geforce settings in the windows control panel and set "image quality" to "performance". There is also a BF2 tweak guide on tweakguide.net

You should not expect to run on all high settings with a AMD 2800 even if you do upgrade to 2 gigs. I have a AMD 3500 and it still glitches once in a while.

I have an MSI Neo 2 Platinum. I originally bought 2 512MB RAM and thought that was alot. Then When I had BF2 lag issues I had to go out and but 2 1gig RAM modules. Pissed me off cause my mobo wouldn't support 4 RAM modules in duel channel at 300Mghz. So I lost my $180 on my 2 512MB modules. Now they just sit and collect dust. (basically)

not sure if the ram will help your lag situation
            I have 3 computers here
            and have done EXTENSIVE testing
(2 have 1.5 ram, one has 512 ram)
the only BAD part about the low ram system is map load up time
            in game it is FINE
the real killer on performance is:
            [resolution, AA and shadows]
you said FEELS like 10 fps
make sure you KNOW the fps when you test
"`" or "end" key to bring up the console
            "renderer.drawfps 1"
and you will get in game fps
the best system here has ATI 800xl
even there I turn off the shadows and dynamic lighting
to keep frame rate above 60
            resolution = 1280 x 960 and 4AA

            the other systems
(ie one is less CPU, one is less graphics card)
resolution 1024x780, AA off, shadows off
            geometry, texture, etc = high
and get fps 40-60 in game
and one only has 512 ram - none have lag in game
unlesss sometimes game server is BAD, then ALL players have lag
            dsl = 3.0Mbit

                Meh, I play with:

                Code:
                VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 2
                VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 2
                VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 1
                VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 1
                VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 1
                VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 1
                VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2
                VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 1
                VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x960@75Hz
                VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
                VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
                VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3
                ( 0 = off, 1 = low, 2 = medium, 3 = high).

It runs great (AMD64 3000+, 1GB 400MHz Dual Channel DDR, GF 6600 GT) on those settings and looks 'good enough'. I get 80-90 FPS reported by drawfps mostly, with really laggy bits down to 40 fps. If I put everything on high it does look 'prettier' but no better for practical gameplay purposes, and I get only 30-40 fps average and dips to 15 fps.

Oh, and I DID try Terrain and Geometry on High to see if it cured, or at least reduced, the draw distance bug, but it didn't. About all it does is give less of the 'liquid landscape' effect as you approach hills. Oh, I got slight stuttering myself with those on high, maybe a case of it every 3-5 minutes, just a 0.5 s glitch or so. With them on Medium I next to never get those stutters.

So, try settings more like mine and see how it goes. It doesn't look as bad as you might think on those kinds of settings. Admittedly all low DOES start looking crap, which is why I bumped a few things back to Medium.

                  Im Running:
                  P4 3.4ghz HT
                  2gb DDR RAM
                  ASUS P4 P800SE Deluxe Motherboard
ATI X800XT PE 256mb (Core Overclocked to 540mhz)

I also have ATI tools installed which displays FPS in top right corner of every game, I have been running all on high, 6xAA & i also suffer lag when turning sharply so more ram might not help, i have now turned off dynamic shadows & dynamic lighting is off also turned terrain detail to medium & also lighting to medium & now my fps is much higher & when lag occurs turning quickly fps drops to around 30 from about 60 instead of on high settings mid 30s to less than 10.

Yes im using the Hotfix & its made no diffrence to that aspect.

Although with that in mind if you have money sitting around why not treat yourself to anothergig of ram, it cant hurt

The only time I get slowdown is when I put textures on high. I can run everything else on ultra but I have to have textures on medium. I think you need either a 512MB graphics card or 2Gigs to run with textures on high. A lot of people say changing dynamic lights works instead of dropping the textures. Does nothing for me.

The settings that made the biggest fps differences for me are:

                        1. Dynamic Shadows (Anytime in a Shadowed area my fps dropped from 90s to high 70s)
                        2. Geometry (The overall gameplay felt more sluggish, fps averaged 75 fps from roaming around being mid 80s to action being high 60s and mid 70s)
                        3. Dynamic Light (It seemed to be fine 80% of the time but in action it would drop more to the 60s)

I have an amd 64 3500+ venice, 2gigs of Corsair, bfg 6800gt 256mb pci-ex so it might not be the exact same situation for u, but you can try lowering those and see how it goes.

Dual core is already out bud, its just really expensive. 4200+ x2 = $555.00 USD. 1GB should be enough, but it seems Nvidia users are having lots of problems. Its funny to me because I have no issues on ATI, and this game was built on Nvidia, lol.

Define ironic: Game built on Nvidia, running better with ATI.
