  • WTH is A64 3800 X2?

These keep poping up all over the web? What are those? I thought the X2 line starts with 4200 ( 4200, 4400, 4600 and 4800) not 3800. then the A64 3800 is baisicly 2.4GHZ with 512k of L2. If you double that u get A64 4600 X2 which is 2.4GHZ with 512k of L2. Please explain

It is a 64 bit processor with two cores. Google is your friend, use it.

God, you guys are dense!!!!!! He knows about X2 and what it is. As of yet, AMD has only released 4200, 4400, 4600, and 4800 X2's. There has not been a release of a 3800 X2. He's wondering why he keeps seeing them when they have not been released or hyped aobut!!!!!!!

According to AMD....it starts with the 4200+. However the Opertron series processor for servers is (from what I hear) essentially the same thing, so it maybe that instead? Just modded to an X2.

THANK YOU. I hate when idiots pretend they are smarter than every one else. Anyway it seem that this chip was created to directly compete with Pentium D, which are much less. Thus far X2s were much better ( at least in my opinion) but were also out of a lot of people's budget. (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=24933) But how do you think they will perform? If you multiply a 3800 by two (of cause u need to modify the architecture a little bit) you would get a 4600 which costs around $800 not $370 as a 3800X2 does.

3800+ has always been in the AMD line for X2. It's just the lower end product, one of the first in production. AMD announced it's release way back in July 2nd. Some private distributers received theirs 07/24 and it will be available to the full public after 08/10.

Why would they release a 4200, 4400, and 4600 before a 3800? Why not at the same time? Makes no sense to me.

A dude on the overclockers forum said that it will be identical to the 4200 exept it will be 200MHZ lower. so 2.0GHZ

I guess they didnt release it sooner because they didnt expect Intel to sell their Pentium D so low.
