Need s1 to examine my system

Here is my system

amd 64 3800+
Saphire x850xt platinum edition
1 gig of some kingston dual ddr ram (not sure on speeds)
Arsrock a8x-m (shite bord i know)
Sata Raid 250 gb 7200 rpm
Audigy 2

Now then i run bf2 at 1280 x 1024 85hz with aa off everything on high except shadows and lighting(medium). When i load the game up it takes around 30 seconds to stop glitchng lagging as most of us get (I hope)

Will this improve the loading and performance of the game? Im not to worried about how quic i can get into the server im bothered more on the performance ingame, I have used xp tweak and some registry managment proggys and they seemd to make it alittle better. U are prolly wondering what im fussed about, basically the ram I currently have has been in my system for about year and a half so im adament that it aint all much cop for bf2 as i do get some spkies now and again,or is it that my grfx card cant handle these settings?

Yes 2 gigs of RAM should stop the stuttering. It's been tried and tested by quite a few people on here. You may still get a tiny hiccup but it will be MUCH better with the extra RAM. As for your graphics card it's more than good enough. You should be running at high or even ultra settings except for textures which should be at medium (at least until you get the 2Gigs then you can run textures at high) and why you have AA off I don't know.

Also try turning your AGP aperture size upto 256MB if it isn't already from the BIOS.

If your board supports raid, I would always advise people to try 2 smaller drives 80gig + and raid 0 for performance.

My aperature size in bios is on 64mb so shud i whack it up on 256? what will that do? Also aa i thought would make the game perform less? Also one other idea was, that i was gonna buy a raptor 10k rpm hd and just install games on it would that make a difference as well?

Yes definately put your aperture upto 256MB. It allocates upto 256MB of system RAM for your graphics and BF2 is intensive so it needs that RAM. It can help with stuttering.

AA does slow any game down but you have a beast of a graphics card that can more than handle this game and AA. Why spend a lot on a really good card and not use all these features? The raptor 10k drives are very good and fast and will speed up loading times quite consderably but that's all it will do.

Ok well ill put the ram in tomoorow if it arrives and ill let u know the difference, I know that my current ram is craeting a bottleneck on my system. As for the aa ill put it on and see what happens

Yup the ram should fix the problems. However, what type of bus do you have? nforce, sis or via? You may want to try and update the drivers for your bus, if you have not already done so. If all else fails it could just be your systemboard itself, since it is a cheapo.

Make sure you update your sound drivers too! THEY DO EFFECT FPS!!!!

Get the Beta drivers with OpenAL support from creative, and also EAX 4.0! (under downloads)

Then goto: http://developer.creative.com/articl...&top=38&aid=46
And get the OpenAL.exe, install it as well. Then goto: "C:/Windows/system32/"
and find the file "OpenAL32.dll" and copy this file (do not paste it yet!).

Then switch to: "C:/Program Files/EA Games/Battlefield 2/" and find the file "BF2OpenAL.dll" and rename it "BF2OpenAL.original". Now paste the OpenAL32.dll file we got from your system32 folder. Rename that to "BF2OpenAL.dll".

This should help your Audigy2 run the game much better and you willl probably see an FPS jump!

Thnx for all your help, let me just say ive read alot of forums saying that an extra gig of ram doesnt do **** to bf2, well im afraid it does !

I had 2 sticks of this ram and it was creating a bottleneck on my system and I was getting worried that i spen abit of money for abit of performance.

With the above config (previous post)
I now have the 2 gig corsair pro series yes the ones with the activity leds and this is no ******** heres what i run bf2 on:

1280x1024 all settings high with aax4 -- no problems at all, cobra dam loads piss,so does all the others. Once a map i.e when 15 ppl are in vehicles and artilery is landing right at yr feet and some idiot has thrown a smoke nade all on your screen at the same time then admitidly you get a slight spike but nasas computer may lag at that ! As for fps I ran fraps and average around 75-90 fps which im happy with. One thing is , i did the audigy 2 fingy which made a difference as well as tweaked xp and tweaked the catalyst centre, so my advice is dont just buy all the best stuff and whack top settings on and expect smoothness stright off and be dissapointed, look at the tweak guides as they make huge difference and great forums like this for help.

As an update ive purchased a wd raptor 10000rpm harddrive so that ill put all my games onit, yes I have a seperate sata cable which will go into the other port. So hopefully that may make it run better although buying this hd I admit is abit of an overkill.
