Okay this is going to sound really stupid, but how do i choose to unlock a weapon after acheiving a new rank?

After you reach the rank of LCpl, log out and then log back in. You'll then get the promotion screen and the option of unlocking a weapon.

Once you've unlocked it, you can then choose to use it or not each time you play. It's actually a pretty good system if you ask me.

except now we all know from the unlock fiasco that we mostly farked up
