I'm just starting to play battlefield 2 and i hear all this stuff about patches do i need to dl these patches to play? If i do does it like automatically install by itself?

Patches? We don't need no stinkin' patches.
You should upgrade to the latest patch v1.02 as it may fix some bugs you may or may not be having. Then again it may add some. Simply put, yes you should have the latest version out. Download it and dbl. click the file. It'll do the rest. -
No it will not auto-update. It will just tell you that you need a patch to join the server. Here it is:

Yes you need punkbuster, and its an anti-cheat program (one of the best, not like that joke of a system VAC). Most servers run PB. You will need to update it manual though as the auto-update ingame is not functioning right now.
Get pbweb.exe and place it into your BF2 root folder, and run it.Comment
