Trading in my X850 XT PE - Good Replacement Card is?

Well. my ASUS Radeon AGP X850 XT PE is thowing me fits. I think it must be some sort of incompatability with something in my computer, not sure what, but i have never had as much trouble with any other card as with this one.

So I sent it in for a refund and i has been refunded. I am now looking for a 6800Ultra AGP, (mostly because of their drivers and their SM 3.0 support).

I have heard BFG is a good brand, is this a good card for replacement? http://bfgtech.com/6800.html

(ps. price is not a problem, my last card was $560 and has been refunded in full, and i am looking to spend anything up to that, but nothing costs that much from what i can find)

I have researched this for a while. was looking for a quick Yes, that's a good card, or No, dont get that, let me find you a better card.

im in a hurry and am on the checkout screen for the BFG 6800 Ultra OC.

Can any1 tell me real quick that this is a good video card? or am i better off getting it from a diff vendor?

What was the problem with the X850XT PE? I have the same card, no problems.

Yes the 6800 Ultra is Nvidia's X850XT PE, however you can save some money and get the 6800GT, and just over clock it to Ultra speeds.

im not getting the GT. i have read way to many problems with it, and i can get the 6800 ultra and overclock it even more, but either way, i dont like over clocking. for 1, i dont know what im doing, im just guessing for the most part, and second, i dont like taking the chance of frying something.

anyways, Im not sure what the problem was with the ati card i had, I think the biggest problem was that it was made by ASUS, they make good mobo's, but i cant say the same for video cards.

I thought it was defective, so i returned it for a replacement only to get the same performance with the new one.

i never had this problem with my Radeon 9600se (in fact, i got the same fps in HL2 and CS:S with my 9600 as i did with my x850)

and in BF2, it didnt matter what detail settings or resolution it was on, i never got more then 45fps with constant down spikes making horribly difficult to play.

if you want more info with what was wrong, just do a forum search for topics made by me, i have like 4 or 5 of them, all with the same problem, and non of the fixes worked.

Well I hope you uninstalled and re-installed drivers when you got the X850XT PE, otherwise the card was being limited to the old performance. You also should have run Driver Cleaner 3 before installing the new card.

This is now very critical as you are switching card mannfacture (ATI to Nvidia). I have a Saphire card, and never had a problem with it.

yes. i have done so much to try and make it work. have used 2 different driver cleaners inbetween each driver install and have tried every possible driver for the video card including omega's.

I can't explain it, but i am tired of fighting it. (I am still convinced the problem is that it was made by ASUS)

Did you OC your CPU? It looks like it by your specs. That maybe causing instability....

it was acting up before i ever turned on the AI overclocking thing in my asus bios. when i turned it on, no difference at all.

Dyt Hlt I would consider buying a 6800GT and a new motherboard.

Perhaps that is a better solution for you.

If not then i would think only a 6800 Ultra would match your old card. But for a cheaper price the 6800 GT would do you good.

the price is not my problem, i dont care if its alot cheaper. too many people have issues with the GT and BF2 together.

I haven't tried any of Nvidia's newer generation cards so I can't tell you from any experience. As far as I've read on a lot of forums, the card you are looking at should do nicely. Only problem is...so should have the one your trading in. I'm kind of with you on it being an ASUS card. I heard they had there own specific drivers instead of catalyst drivers. If that is true, I'd bet real money that was your problem. Please post and give us your results with your new BFG card. I'm curious how it works.

Uhh the GT and Ultra are the same cards but the GT is restricted performance. But this is easily resolved by just raising the speeds to ultra speeds.

Any problems with the GT are to do with graphical power rather than the different cards.
If you overclock the GT to Ultra speeds you basically have an Ultra.

Whatever get an Ultra. I have a Leadtek GT myself.

Instabilty may become of the single Molex rather than dual on the Ultra but thats not really a performance issue, rather stability.
