And furthermore if you want a handy way to keep all those battlefield .con files in check here's my registry tweak I can't live without when I hit the battlefield.

start\run\type regedit\ expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key , right click the first entry (*) and select new key, type shell as the name, right click this new key same again, call this notepad, and again on this new key, call this command.

        STOP

LOOK -->> right side panel at the default value of the key ( command ) you just created, double click the right panel side def. value and type in the popup dialogue box this: notepad %1, then on the notepad key you created ( parent key above this one , double click the right side panel def. value as well and type &N(+)TE[]D/=\[]) or something almost as equally good , :) I'm l3373|Z than L337 sometimes I surprise myself.

That's it. now right click those lil .con files PAL! Oi ENEMY SPOTTED! GOT IT!
        Cheers !

I find it strange that it would show up in the BFHQ section, but not ingame.

                      Any thoughts?

You could have done the same thing and be a lot more safer than messing with the regedit feature by going to gamespyid.com and changing your main account information there and saving it. Then when you log into BF2, you log in under your new name and put the password. Your new name will appear in the BFHQ with your unlockables, but your ingame name still remains the same as the original you signed up with.

EA has said it is not possible already (even via "backdoor" things like this). Patch v1.03 will address this issue.

You apparently didn't read the post.

That was what this "solution" was all about.

The problem now is that the name change occurs in the BFHQ section, but not ingame.

Hopefully more technically savy people will pick up on this thread and offer a work around for this.
