Did anyone solve the freeze problem (with sound looping)

Has maybe anyone found a solution to the freeze problem ? (with looping sound).

I read at least 200 pages in technical support, forums etc. I tried everything suggested on forums. Still the same. After few minutes game freeze with looping sound and I have to restart the computer. Sometimes freezes when the game is over.

I installed the new drivers for motherboard, soundcard, graphic card (both on cd and newest), I tried different settings in-game (software-low sound, 1024 all medium for graphics, with lightning and shadows off).

I tried turning the sound acceleration on basic for directx. Still the same.

I have Athlon64 3200 939 on GIGABYTE with 6600 GT XFX, 1 GB ram, Freshly installed windows with Battlefield 2 + patch 1.02(1). I also updated punkbuster with this new pbweb.exe

I also tried the thing with network adapter- still the same problem.
I wrote to EA about this an got some stupid answer for unlocable weapons ???. Can they read or the just send random answers prepared in advance?

I am getting crazy. Please help. Problems sime to be more frequent after updating the battlefield and pb.

    Thanks in advance

I had that also, but can't remember what specifically stopped it from happening. I updated audio drivers & video drivers.... sorry can't be more helpful, it used to happen all the time, and now it doesn't. I guess you could start there.

        still the same

I am sorry but never had installed the demo or 101 patch.

I installed Battlefield 2 from the DVD, patch it with 1.02 and update the PB. Only after this I started the game.

So i do not think its the problem of some old files remaining. I also checked the patch log and found no significant errors)

        I got this results :
        File Patches Applied ......................... ( 62)
        Files Modified .................. ( 61)
        Files Renamed. .................. ( 0)
        Files Added ..................... ( 0)
        Files Deleted ................... ( 1)
        Temporary Files Processed........ ( 0)
File Patches Skipped: New Files Up-To-Date.... ( 8)
File Patches Ignored: Old Files Missing....... ( 11) -some language files
        Old Files Invalid....... ( 0)

I saw it once, when I overclocked my video card. Turned off the overclock, and haven't seen it since. Try down-clocking your video card's core speed.

You seem to have missed out bits of, vital info, about your rig m8.

              1) have you got, and if so, what is your sound card.
              2) what on board sound sys are you using.
              3) are you using your mobo sound as well as the sound card. (you could be having conflict)

I should have been more specific about that link, it was the bit about the zip file patch 1.02 that has not produced all the files necessary, and the stuff about if you have added new hardware or altered settings you need to uninstall, re install the game etc.

I have motherboard Gigabyte K8NS - 939 Ultra which have onboard sound card Realtek Ac97 (ALC850). Firstly a had the motherboard drivers for it but then someone sugessted that I should install the drivers directly from Realtek directly. (newest).

I keep thinking that its should be the motherboard problem (some drivers perhaps). I think so because on the old computer (MSI ULTRA VIA KT400) I was able to play without no problems. I think than BF2 have some issues with this.

In regards to the drivers I have installed the newest for my motherboard from their web page. (nforce3). and then after after some suggestion installed the nforce drivers directly from NVIDIA.

                The problem still remains.

In regards to the instalation I have done like this :

I uninstalled the Battlefield (like GreatWhiteShark) described, I celaned the register and deleted all files connected to the BF2.

Then I installed BF2 from DVD, run the game, configure setup.

then download the patch from EA web page , install it and update the PB with PBSETUP.

(the only thing strange to me is that even that I updated the PB through this program it still says in PBSETUP : Client version : PB not installed, Server Version : PB not installed). why? is this normal.

I had trouble with the Realtek drivers from there site. I rolled my audio drivers back to the orginals and haven't had an issue since. Although my game never locked up it just was crackling on the onboard sound as well.

Sorry lcplsickoll but I had problems with the original drivers and the ones from Realtek directly.

MY problems got fixed completely, I uninstalled and reinstalled without applying the patch, I went online (300 Servers) and tried about a dozen servers with no problems at all, I hope they fix this prob with the NEW patch coming out next month because I want to play with the other people.

I tried this. When I reinstalled the game (without patching) i played in single player fro few minutes --- FREEZE

In regards to 2GB I will get it next week but I doubt this is the problem.

Plz try the following it seems an AMD 64 board issue. I have not that much knowledge about the 64 so if the following works plz get back to me and i'll add it to the list of peoples found fixes, for others. Sharky

                              |Use the http://drivercleaner.net and remove traces of nforce drivers (If you wish)

                              Solution:
Simply download the new NVIDIA nForce4 drivers for you motherboard chipset! For the AMD its driver version 6.53 (not the beta version). Surprisingly no freezes!
Just follow this link to get the drivers:
                              http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

Thread mentions 6.53, but they aren't the latest drivers anymore 6.66 was released on July 15.

Quote ...Nvidias did the trick. I played all night with everything cranked to the max. If you are having stuttering/rubberbanding issues just turn off your dynamic lighting and shadows, but if you are getting the hard locks where you have to hit the reset button do yourself a big favor and update your chipset drivers from Nvidia's site and not your boards website. Thanks for the tip EuqirneSelbor!! Works great!!
