Tonight I had a chance to command for a little while, and I was luckily enough to have 3 pretty good squads under my command, they were 1,2, and 5 for reference, since I didn't learn all their names. Alot of these battles were on fushe pass, the ones where things were down pat were defenetly on that map.
I was doing my normal thing at the begining hiding some where with a jeep, so I could take care of any sepc ops and such that would try to wander into the base. Then to the normal commander duties I thought. At first it was. Then I saw them ripping through the first rush of enemies, grabbing up all the bases along the wat pretty much. I had to constantly re issue orders just cause I wanted to keep them alive as much as possible. And for the most part they listened. Normally I avoid putting artillery anywhere near a friendly, this night it was even harder, because they kept following my orders so well, They were always enganing, so I didn't have a safe place for artillery, but they were loving the UAVs and supplly drops. for a while I didn't use the artillery that much, or just putting it on the enemies main uncapturable base in some random spot. This went on for a while, and our team kept holding together so well, I still couldn't find a nice juicy group of enemies to rank up some kills with, so I was out of ideas for a while.
Then it dawned on me, if we're doing so well already, I should just use artillery to wear down their vehicles, and the best place for that is the heli pad, which also had a air plane hangar, and sensor dish very close by. This is the american base on the map, I was chinese.
I started constantly dropping artillery around that area, non stop. It felt a little cheap and pointless, cause I was not getting any kills really, just taking out some choppers, and maybe a plane or the dish. after a while though I saw that it was slowing the enemy down, and they couldn't get out of the base as easily, and with my own forces so close they didn't get past them, into the territory we held, but didn't need to defend.
So I jst kept on doing it, and the enemy was starting to become weary of heading for the choppers. And I thought it couldn't get any better. Then with out me ordering them, squad 2, lead by Mr.moneyshot I belive, decided defending the base closest to the enemy uncapturable was too boring, so they decided to take some APCs, and AA into the enemy base, while I was still artillering it every now and then, they just wanted a supply drop every now and then, and a UAV, which was fine cause the enemy didn't really have any other bases, and squads 1 and 5 were constantly on the move retaking a base, or defending when I was a force moving into a base. it was literal chaos in the enemy base, they would spawn into a artillery barrage, and armour, along with a few soldiers. I almost felt bad, if it wasn't so sweet to watch from my private satalite view.
We managed to keep this up for a few rounds, the enemey couldn't really find a way to stop it, and their commander didn't see fit to artillery our base, I guess they wanted more kills, silly him/her. eventually I had a solitary enemy running into the base just to find me, and try to take out my assests. Kinna pointless when I don't gotta worry about anything so I can just use the scanner to find them, or a UAV if I want it to be really easy.
In the end I didn't make that many points, but man did they follow my orders, even they ones to "move" to a certain spot, usually trying to lead them to the supply crate I sent for them. I also learnt that artillery isn't always for killing, it can be more devistating to slow your enemy, then to kill them outright.
Thats my story, I wish I knew the names of all the squad leaders and their members, but I don't. but I was sithdemon236, and it was the most fun I've had commanding so far.
