Overclocking Question

Well...just received my new AMD socket 939 motherboard with a new AMD Athlon 64 3000+ today. After going through much pain when I lost all of my files from the the last 2 years :cry: , I have come out fine and realized I will have to get over it Anyways, to the point, I have 4 fans in my case right now cooling it. I have my processor overclocked from the factory 1.8 GHz to 2.21 GHz. I was wondering if you guys thought I could go higher and if so...how much?

Either way, it will get answered here. It depends. You need to check the BIOs and see the current opperating temp. of the CPU. With an AMD I wouldn't think you would want to exceed 50*C. AMDs run really cool which helps out alot for this. But so long as your temps don't fly up, you should be okay (assuming the system is stable otherwise).

Most 3000 overclocks with decent ram are like 2.5-6 in 1:1.

I'll be doing 2395mhz at 266mhz*9 at 1:1

If you want to multiplyer your ram, the only things bottlenecking are the cpu and motherboard really - providing you have a good psu. The 3000+ is a good overclocker though. Dunno about your motherboard

The Skt 939 3000 is a great OC'er. Just make sure the board and memory can keep up.

Thanks for that link GreatWhite Anyways...I have my 3000+ running at 2.4 GHz right now with no problems so far. I have a Nforce3 Ultra motherboard with 1 GHz Hypertransport. I have 2 sticks of 512 MB memory running at DDR 333 speed in dual channel mode. What do you guys think?

You're memory is going to be the bottleneck, if you're running the 3000 that fast. Get something atleast 400mhz or better. As far as what I think, well if it's stable and fast then it sounds great to me.

It doesn't bottleneck the processor, but it's the slowest component in the system. Therefore the next logical upgrade.

Sure, depending on your motherboard you may be able to do it the BIOS. Just make sure you stress test the memory after each change to make sure everything is running smooth. Check the Advanced tab in the BIOS and see if you can manually set the timings and clock. I only uses Asus boards to I can't be much more specific as I don't know what you have. Good Luck, and keep an eye on those temps.

Yea, depending on the quality of your RAM is how much you can overclock it.

Some 100 quid plus OCZ ram is going to overclock more than some crappy no name ****.

1.8@2.8 with just air cooling. Also explains how they do in settings and voltage but not too indept, but enough for you to go from there.
