Sniping Squads

This is a tactic I have been using more and more and it really works if the supprot and medic personell knows how to do it. I have been making squads with names like snipeandsupport and many of the times people that join are snipers and support personell only.

a couple of snipers leading/in a squad can be great w/ one or two spec ops. snipers can pin down the enemy and spec ops sneak up from behind the pinned down enemies and wipe them out.
the snipers can keep a overall veiw on the area so nobody can sneak up on you, as long as nobody sneaks up on the snipers.

Sorry my friend...but sniping is an art!
Not everybody can be successful in this class.
Where's the skill in running around and shooting all over the place where for every 2 kills you make you die 10 times?..

I have no problems with people preventing air-cover from taking out my squad, good move there. Spawn camping annoys me greatly, but stopping people as they run for vehicles is fair enough. I dont mind snipers as squad members or lone wolfs, as long as they actually support the attack by calling out anything they spot and by taking out people in support of the squad.
As an example, I was playing as part of a decent squad on a public server that was on Daquing Oilfields. As usual we were defending the central compound in between the middle oil tanks, and I was being harassed by an enemy sniper who was stopping me using the AA. Our squad had a sniper on top of the tanks who was calling out positions, and he guided 2 of us as Spec-Ops down onto the snipers position so we could knife the annoying sod. With top cover from the sniper and working as a team, we held that place for the duration.

I feel having 1 sniper in a squad in a recon roll woul be ecellent, especially using voice-op, he could provide covering fire and identify threats and oppertunities during battles. Maybe the best squads contain 1 of each class, just a though.

For one thing, well-hidden snipers are some of the best squad leaders possible. Its tough to find them, and when squad-mates spawn, its almost always somewhere concealed and prone. A good tactic for taking down a tough zone involved 5 of us spawning repeatedly at our squad leader (a concealed sniper) until we took back the zone. He stayed hidden the whole time and just popped off the random shot or two. Its even better if he's hidden in a builing, then even arty can't take him down, it would have to be a dual-effort from the enemy commander and his team.

Hey while we're on the subject and I skip over all the posts after reading the first, how about giving the squad leader some sort of distinquishable characteristic like a color band or something. Or am I taking it a little too far by making everyone want to be a sniper and taking out mobile squad leaders? I'm just thinking that if we give snipers a way to kill squad leaders maybe we can turn the rest of the squad into murderious kamikazees?

The way snipers are implemented in the game---and by extension, the way they are played, I find them to be little more than an annoyance. Anybody competent will come back as assault or counter-sniper and kill the sniper on his way to the next objective. Cover and concealment just aren't effective enough in this game.
I do see a spot in a full flag cap/def squad for a sniper, but you need a squad using voip and working together like clockwork to maximize his usefullness. The squad has to be very quick and dependable when calling out his targets, especially if they're out of his typical overwatch arc.

Your logic extends to ANY kit in that role, you realize? He could've been any kit and it would've worked. Snipers aren't any harder to see in this game, and are actually easily distinguished from any other class at first glance.Originally posted by XoC.bomberFor one thing, well-hidden snipers are some of the best squad leaders possible. Eyes in the sky!Originally posted by Johno77Some people dont realise how handy a sniper can be, when I'm in a squad with my mates, I'm normally a sniper, while they storm a flag, I hang back and identify any threats that havent seen or pick them off myself.
this is exactly what I do. Sit in a good spot to cover my team's advance to a flag.
very fun, and very effective.

You know that most snipers in real life arn't lone wolves..? You can have a sniper in a squad and he be a big big help by just taking out those people who prone at a distance, say the support guy or something thats blaring on his machinegun. Ofcourse doing that in a city is a bit harder, but on open maps thats when it would help
